Pitts, Jr., of Summit street, has enlisted in the United States Navy, and has left for the Great Lakes Training station, where he will receive three months’ train ing in seamanship and military drill. The activities of the final two weeks at the Cattaraugus County Health Camp, came to a climax Wed nesday with the Annual “Circus Day”. There was a fantastic par ade, tricks iby the famous Billy Fan- cher, performing horse, ridden by Roy Pierce, novelty acts, dances and songs. Lyle Gates of Randolph was reelect ed president. Seventeen vendors assembled the public market Thursday morn ing, and offered their various kinds of produce for sale. Mrs. M argaret Normile, widow of Michael Normile, passed away. Miss Helen E. Duggan, daughter of Mrs. Hannah Duggan, became the bride of Richard C. Phelan of \Buf falo, Tuesday morning at St.. Pat rick’s Church. About 30 delegates attended the annual convention of Cattaraugus County American Legion Posts in this city this week. They motored to Allegany State Park where dinner was served. Y.M.C.A. band of about 25 musicians and about thirty-five Salamanca firemen took part in the parade which was the feature last Friday afternoon .of the convention of the Southwestern New York Firemen’s Association held Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Lancaster. LV and Mansfield In Playoff Series Little Valley meets Mansfield Sun day at the latter’s home diamond for the first of the play off contests for either team. These teams play a two out of three series and then will meet the winner of the Crist and Bast Otto series. Mansfield has played their two reg ular games at Little Valley and both were close contests with Little Val ley coming out the winner. Claude Schuppenhauer has his Mansfield charges at the keenest playing stage they have reached all season and promises Jim Memmott to make Uittle Valley play the third game and then he may win the play off and put Little Valley out of the divisional or coupty championships. Little Valley expects \o start the young star pitcher John \Webust who is this week trying to catch on with one of the International League teams. If Wehust is not available Memmott has a fine substitute in Johnson. Claude is pinning his hope Chan Wolfe who when right is still one of the best hurlers in this part of the state. The Foster Brook plant of the Bradford Oil Refining Co., went to the Kendall Refining -Co., for $30o,- 500, at a public auction attend'hd by about 106 oil men. ^ e n the bidding reached $250,- 000, the field narrowed down to the Kendall' representatives, and the Pennzoil company of Oil City. The latter made a final bid of $305,250. Foster Brook plant, which has been closed down sine© the end of last year, will be used by Kendall primarily in the production of spec ialty products from Pennsylvania oil, according to a statement issued b y J.
