They left on a motor trip to Ohio and on their return will make their home in Cattaraugus. Hillside Rebekah Lodge Hillside Rebekah Lodge held its regular meeting on Wednesday eve ning. The Rebekah Degree was con ferred on Mrs. Mildred Preston and Mrs. Lillian Howard. Election of ofiicers was held, Noble Grand, Mrs. Cora Berg; Vice Grand, Belle Free- horu; Rec. Fancher, Mrs. Neva Palmer, Mrs. Vivian 6orkwell. Ladies Aid The monthly meeting of the Lad ies Aid Society was held Wednes day afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. Green. The president, Mrs. C. B. Whipple had charge and the devo tions were led by Miss Nina Palmer. M atters pretaining to the organiz ations of the church were discussed. During the social hour the ladies entertained in honor of Mrs, Rupert. Delicious refreshm ents were served and the honor guest received many Nursing Committee The October meeting of the Nurs ing Committee was held with Mrs. J. M. Farm er on Tuesday afternoon. There was a very good attendance and supplies were made for the use of the District Nurse. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. D. B. Fessenden, W.C.T.U. The W.C.T.U. will meet with Mrs. Lewis Kysor on- Friday afternoon, Oct. 4th. Members are urged to at tend and to come prepared to take part in the program. Brotherhood Meeting on Thursday The Four Point Brotherhood had its regular monthly meeting in the South Dayton Methodist Church. Over forty men were present from Dayton, Perrysburg, Cherry Creek and South Dayton and enjoyed a de licious corn beef and cabbage din ner. Harry Austin, the President, called the meeting to order. Rev. Rupert led the devotionals. Roy Bension of Perrysburg gave a brief report on the Conference which was held in New Castle, Pa. All returned home well satisfied. The next meeting will he held in Cherry Creek in October. Scout News The meeting on Monday evening began at the usual time and for the opening of the meeting, the scouts formed a circle with the flag in the center and the ^scouts pledged al legiance to the Dag, while in the background the radio was playing America. This was a very impressive ceremony to’ all the boys. Later in the evening, Ellis Gould gave a very interesting talk on how to make hunting knives and hold ers. The knives to be made from hack saw blades and i;he holders from high top shoes. This would make a very good project for some patrol to consider and carry out. Ray Zen- tecki and K uttle W ard have already started m aking their knives. Let’s w ait and see what the final product will be like. Child H ^ t h Conference A child health conference, under the direction of the Cattaraugus County Dept, of Health, was held in the Perrysburg village school on Wednesday afternoon. Sept, 25th. Dr. I. W. Livermore was in charge, assisted by Miss Marian Hill, South Dayton District Nurse, and the Miss es Helen Comstock and Bertha Szy- m anski. Homemaking students of South Dayton High School. Birthday Surprise iMrs. Lillian Steele of W rights’ Corners 'was given a surprise party last Saturday on the occasion of her SOth birthday by members of the South Dayton Free Methodist Church —^neighbors and friends. Following the dinner there was a program in charge of Mrs. Myrtle Gage a t which time several talks were given and songs rendered hy the young peo ple 'present. Among the out of town guests were Mrs. Riley Potter, Mrs. Jennie Rothfuss, Mrs. Lihbie Goodenough, Mrs. A rthur Mackmer of Collins Center; Mrs. Clyde Lewis of Dun kirk, Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Crowell and son of Forestville, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Luce of Cherry Creek. Novice Club Mrs, C. H. Miller entertained the Novice Bridge Club on Friday after noon. Three tables were played and the prizes went to Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Dexter and Mrs. Eldred re ceived the floating prize. Mrs. El dred was a guest of the club. The next meeting will be held in two weeks. Club Sponsors Field Trial The annual raccoon field trial virill be held Sunday, Oct. 6th at the Clar ence Sutter farm on the Cottage road, where the Pine Valley Rod and Gun Club has its club house and rifle range. This field trial is sponsored hy the Cattaraugus and Chautauqua County Raccoon Protective Associa tion and a large attendance of sports men from both counties is expected, Ladies and children may enjoy this event without cost. WUlG STREET A reception for Rev. Glenn Reed and family Was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Joseph Harrison, Mon day evening. Mr and Mrs. Will Ashley of Ran dolph spent Thursday at Henry- Leach’s. Dr. Howard Stoll and Miss Drake examined the pupils here Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. George Smith, Mr. and Mrs, Herbert Howe and Mrs. Verna Fisher called at Avery Howe’s at Humphrey Sunday evening. Prayer meeting was held with Mr. and Mrs. H erbert Howe on Thursday evening. After the meeting the neighbors decided to remain for the evening and help them celebrate their fortieth wedding anniversary. Refreshments were served and all enjoyed a beautiful wedding cake. They were presented with an electric lamp and everyone wished them many more anniversaries. Many are visiting the new obser vation fire tower which was recent ly completed on the site of the late John O’Hern buildings near Canfield Hill; It is about 85 feet in height and affords a fine view foy many miles. They have fixed a fine park ing place and are building a cottage for the fire ranger. Evangelistic services will be held October 20tb in the Salamanca U. B. Church each evening except Mon day at 7:30. The evangelist is Rev. Marvin Lewis of Red Level, Ala. The song leader is Ray Miller of Cat taraugus. NOTICE OF REDEMPTION From Sales of Lands.
