Mr. and Mrs. Prank A. Rhodes, Broad street, were called to Kane, Pa., yesterday because of the ser ious illness of Mrs. Rhodes’ brother, David McKie, who is a patient in the Kane hospital. Mr. and Mrs. McKie, who resided for some time in Clean, recently returned to their farm in Kinzua, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick C. Lear, have purchased the house at 92 Lin coln avenue and have moved into their home. The purchase was made through the C. A. Kammire Real Estate Agency from the H.O.L.'C, Miss Mary Elizabeth Doyle of St. Elizabeth’s Academy, Allegany, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Anastasia Lane, ‘Maple street. Miss Margaret Ann Driscoll of Buf falo, was a week-end guest of Miss Patia Carpenter, Kent boulevard. Miss Nea Smith and friend Miss Connie Kerns of Larchmont left Wednesday on a motor trip through the South and points in Texas. They expect to be gone about four weeks. Mrs. Charles Keenen, East State street, is spending a few days in Cleveland. Relatives here have been informed of the defith of Mrs. Arthur Palmer in Detroit, Mich., Wednesday even ing. Monday she suffered a stroke and her condition had been regard ed' as critical since that day. Mr, and Mrs. Sidney Smith and Mrs. Phyllis Oyer, Wildwood avenue, are leaving today for Detroit to attend the funeral, which will be held tomorrow. Besides her husband, Mrs. Palmer is suf’vived by one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Smith of Detroit. Miss E. May Dunn, superintendent of the City Hospital, and Miss Edith M. Ringbom, R. Ten Years Ago The death of Sam G.-DeNike, one of the most widely known newspap er men of western New York, died at his home in Division street. The death of Benjamin A. Youth Sentenced for Hurling Lye at Foe Jonnie B. Miller, 23, was con victed W ednesday by a county court jury who had been deliberating the evidence supporting charges that Miller committed a second degree assault in throwing lye into the face and eyes of Herman W illiam s. Both men were enrollees at the Hungry H o llow CCC encampment, and had trouble on January 29 and 30. Judge Orla E. Black sentenced Miller to a year in Cattaraugus coun ty jail, tim e seiwed to apply. Mil ler, who has spent lOO flays in coun ty jail, w ill serve an additional five to six m onths if he earns tim e off for good behavior, court attaches said W ednesday. Under questions by county pros ecutor A. Edward Krieger, witnesses for the people said that Miller was serving at m ess in the camp hall January 30. AVhen W illiam s passed in line to receive his helping of cake. Miller threw a can of lye into W il liam s face. The defense, conducted by Waldo E. Rassas, Little Valley, attempted to show that W illiam s had severly beaten Miller on January 29, for which W illiam s was subsequently convicted of third degree assault and served tim e. He brought out that the January 30 fight was also pro voked by W illiams, who struck Miller while w a iting to be served his cake helping. The defendant claimed he stag gered back, reached for the first ob ject at hand, and threw it in self- defense. He also sustained burns from the lye, he said. Mrs. Della Kenjockety Of Red House Dies Mrs. Della A. Kenjockety, aged 64 years, died Monday morning in the Salamanca 'City Hospital, follow ing an illness of several months. She was born in Red House, where she had always lived. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Jim- mersontown. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Luther Jimmerson and Mrs. Olive Gordon of Red House, and a brother, Edward Gordon of Red House; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wed nesday afternoon at the Red House Baptist ehureh, the 'Rev. Russell Moore of Salamanca, officiating. Burial was in Red House Indian cemetery.
