George J. Blank and family are spending a two week’s vacation at West Valley and Buffalo. Mr. Blank and Troop 6, Seneca Council, Boy Scouts of America will camp for a week at Cascade Park. The annual inspection and parade of the Gowanda Fire Department was held Saturday evening. The depart ment is composed of 145 men, div ided into six companies and owns apparatus valued at $20,000. The line of march was over the principle streets of the village. Dr. J. Johnson, Health Officer of Olea'n has apjwinted Dr.Eiliott of the Rocky Crest Sanitarium, standing examining physician, for the Free Tuberculosis Clinic, which will he held Wednesday of each week at 2 o’clock for men, women and children in the dispensory office, city build ing at Olean. There will be a regular meeting of Salamanca Lodge, No. 1025, B. P. O. ’ E. at the lodge rooms, Main street, Friday evening, July 18th, at 8 o’clock sharp. Business of impor tance will come up at this meeting including report of Building Commit tee. There will be initiation also. Mr. E. S. Brown an'd Mr. Leon ard Swan left Tuesday for Jackson, Michigan by way of Buffalo and the Lakes. On the return trip they will drive new cars just released from the factory from Jackson to Det^it thence by boat to Buffalo. The re mainder of the trip from Buffalo to Salamanca will be made in the new machines. Dr. J. H. Henderson of Olean was a business caller in the city. Wednes day. Dr. Henderson has just open ed new offices at 209 East State street and in Olean will confine hi^ practice entirely to office work. He will, however, make professional calls in Salamanca whenever called upon. Dr. Henderson has been located in Salamanca for many years past and has been very successful in his prac tice here. The people of Salamanca generally will wish Dr. Henderson unlimited success in Olean and regret tha't he found it to his advantage to remove to that city. Deputy Collector Pfeiffer of the Internal Revenue office of Buffalo is in town in regard to Excise tax on ice cream, jewelry, automobiles and soft drinks. Mr. Pfeiffer has estab lished headquarters at the office of Deputy U. S. Marshall Carew iii the Federal building as has been bis cus tom on previous visits to this city. Mr. E. E. Bacon of the same depart ment, located at Clean'and Deputy Collector William Forrestell with headquarters at Little Valley spent Wednesday in Salamanca on official bu^ness. Former Olean Man Elected Grand Chaplain Elks of the U. S. Rev. John D'ysart of Dubuque, Iowa, who afew years ago was assis tant rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Olean, was recently, elect ed Grand Chaplain of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States, at the National Con vention of Elks, held in Atlantic City, N. The ball game between the’ K. of C. of Salamanca and the Red House team resulted in a victory for the fornler, score 18 to 15. Miss Lucy See of Olean is spend ing the week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Se.e. ------------------- 00 ------------------- Work on County Office Building Progressing Work on the addition to the County Office building at Little Val ley is progressing. The concrete footing for the outer walls, the base for the furnace, and a portion of the high rear 'vgall were poured last week. Each proposal must be accom panied by a New York draft or cer tified check for five per cent of the amount of the bid, payable to Fred W. Gardner, city comptroller. The successful bidder will be required to give surety bond for fifty per cent of the amount bid for the faithful per formance of the contract, such bond to be subject to the approval of the city attorney'of the city of Salaman ca.
