Byron Caldwell, of Syracuse, has been visiting his friend Glenn Darroch. Fred Grover, of East Pharsalia, N. Y-, visited his wife and other rela tives here this week. Arthur Hitt, of Binghamton, visit ed his sister, Mrs. Emory Burke, and other relatives, on Monday. Mrs. Ella Sage arrived in town from Waterbury, Connecticut,, on Saturday, for a month’s vacation. Dr. Barre brought into this office the other day e P spear of orchard grass measuring 67 inches in length. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wills and daughter, Marion, of Walton, N. Y., were recent guests of relatives in town. Mr, and Mrs. George M. Goss and son Fred visited among relatives and friends in town from Saturday until Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Borden, of Morris, were ..guests on Tuesday of Mr. and Mrs. Truman Parker. Mrs. L. D. Baker and children, of Eagle Bridge, N . Y ., are spending a few days with relatives in t o w n ., Silas Yager visited at the home of his daughter at Port Leyden, N. Y., two or three days the past week. Merritt G^ge, of Stamford, Con necticut, has beeTfi visiting his broth ers and other relatives in this local ity. Mr. and Mrs. Ormond Dixson and daughter Dorothea were guests of relatives and friends in town the past week. Miss Mildred Dixon, a teacher in a Binghamton school, is spending a portion of her vacation at her home in this village. Large numbers of the people of this village and vicinity, motored to New Berlin Monday to attend the the celebration held there. Friends here of Mrs. Linn Gage are pleased to know that she is re covering from the operation she un derwent at thp -Norwich hospital. Mrs. Jennie Sage went to Mt. Up-' ton, Tuesday afternoon, where she expects to spend several weeks at the home of her sister, Mrs. Oiln AngeU. Mr. and Mrs. Cregnier and two sons, Lester and Charles, Mrs. Ed. Hockford, of Schenectady, N. Y.,, were auto guests at R. H. Bixson’s, Sunday and Monday. Miss Mabel Morrell left last week Thursday, morning for Theresa, Jeff erson county, N. Y., to visit her sister; then from there she will go to Detroit, Mich., for an indefinite stay with friends. Edwin Dixon of Syracuse, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Dixon, and other relatives in town two or three days the past week. Edwin has a good situation in the aforesaid city, and enjoys his work. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Gadsby and little daughter, Gertrude; Mrs. Eliza beth Wright, Mrs. Florence Place, of Binghamton, were entertained at the homes of Mr. nnd Mrs, A. J . Payne and Mr. and Mrs. Starr Warner, from Saturday until Monday. We have changed and corrected our mail list. If any one has paid their subscription and have not been given the proper credit they should write or call at this office and the mistake will be rectified. Subscrip tions are not extended longer than 30 days after they expire. Work on the dam at Holmesvillie has progressed to such an extent that electric lights are again,.in evidence, although much work remains to be done before-the dam is ^tirely com pleted. It has been a tremendous undertaking for such a small force of men, and they are doing a good'job. Probably but very few persons know that this community has a “ skunk tamer” This is something very rare and requires exceptional skill, for although these animals are small they are not easy to control and are dangerous. Anyone wanting to know the secret of how to handle them can secure the necessary infor mation of Wm. Sliter. BAPTIST CHURCH NEW*S. R. O. TuIIoch, Pastor. The first semi-annual banquet of the Who’s Who Community Club was held at the church Friday evening, July 2nd and was a decided success. North Section was the guest of the other three sections and were royally entertained. Supper was served to about one hundred. After the supper a business session was held and offi cers elected. Rev. It was decided to try to raise by subscrip tion $1,000 for the purchase and equipment of an athletic field. The Club has $226. One man has prom ised $200 another $25. The com mittee on finance will strive to raise the remainder. Prof. Preston ex plained the use and value of an ath letic field. * A letter of regret from Rev. and Mrs. E. Bohne-Echolt was read. Miss Ethel Gage at the piano and Miss Amelia Parker, violinist, rendered some fine music. The meet ing was adjourned. . Victor Lodge, I. 0.._0. F. New’S. There was an attendance of 27 at the last lodge session and it seemed good to see some of the brothers there who had been conspicuous by their absence; we hope they will come oftener. At the lodge session Tuesday even ing occurred the semi-annual installa tion of officers. The officers were installed by D. D. G. M., Gilbert H. Edgett and staff, composed of the following: D. D. G. Following the installation and other lodge business a fine supper of ice cream, coffee, etc., was served in the dining room, closing with “ after dinner speeches by nearly every one present. An invitation has been received from Ehrenbreitstein Lodge, No. 153, of New Berlin, to visit them \next Monday evening, when their officers will be installed and the third degree conferred. The invitation was ac cepted. It is advisable to start at about 7:30 o’clock p. m., and all having autos are requested to use them in carrying the brethren who care to go and who have no means of getting there. M e e t'at the Lodge room as soon after 7 o’clock as you can. The term just brought to a close has been harmonious in every respect, and the officers, especially the noble, grand should fepl grateful for the good average attendance. While there has bean no great gain in mem bership, still the loss has been slight; one member, Bro. Manfred Benson has tranferred to the New Berlin lodge; three have joined, two by initiation and one by transfer, mak ing the membership stand at the close ^of the month of June 87. We hope there will be several new members added during the current term. + Sudden Death. Mrs-! Alice Janes, aged about 73 years, died suddenly at her home in this village on Tuesday night. She was found by a neighbor lying on the floor in one of her rooms where she had fallen. Sijice the death of her ‘husband several years ago she had lived alone. She is survived by a son, William Janes, of Bogota, N., J., and a daughter, Mrs, 'Wm, Chapin, who lives about a mile north of this village, and other more dis- ant relatives. She had b^en 3, resi dent of this plaqe for many years. The funeral will be held on Satur- d ly at 11 o’clock, burial by the side of her husband in Riverside cemetery. A Deserved Promotion. Syracuse, July' 6 .- - I believe it will be of great interest to the home readers of the “ old home paper” to hear of the recent appointment of Mr. Edwin Dixon. Edwin came with the Sunshine or ganization during last October as a regular salesman on a city territory. His progress has been sure and rapid. Dixson was reported ill this week. Floyd Dexter is raising up the roof on the west wing' of his barn. Prof. George Preston and Daniel G- Hayes motored to Sidney, Thurs day on business. Mrs. H. E. Morrell has been con fined to the bed by illness several days the past week. Emerson Day at Davis crossing, is having a large addition built onto the south end of his barn; the Dixsons are doing the work. -Rfiss Lottie Peck of South New Berlin, who was recently operated upon for removal of tonsils and ade noids by Drs. Stewart and Wilcox, is reported to be making a splendid recovery.—Norwich Sun. P. R. Spencer of South New Ber lin arrived in town last week>and has opened up a barber shop in rooms over H. J. Schworm’s store. He expects to move his family here in the near future.—Edmeston Local. The ten shares of stock of the 50 shares needed by the Berholme Power Co., with -which to purchase a suitable engine for their plant, to be used as auxilliary power, have been sold, 40 more are necessary. Y.*- advertisement .The state road work ^to date is about as follows: The sub-base is practically all on from the Henry Sage corner to the new construction above the bridge near Gilbert Edgett’s; the new construction will be passed by for the present and the grading continued and sub-base put in the balance of the way to the Nor wich state highway.
