North Westchester Times, Mount Kisco, N.Y., July 30, 1959 Mrs. Darlington to Assist Area United Fund Campaign Tiff— — 1 T»v * . ... - ' Mrs. Charles Darlington of Mount Kisco will serve as Vice-Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the United Fund of Northern West chester, it was announced this week. She will assist Chairman Willard S. Simpkins of Bedford Hills in leading the first combined fund drive for Northern West chester which will be held this fall. A member of the Board of Di rectors of the Func\ since January, Mrs. Darlington, with this new post, accepts additional responsi bilities wth the new organization. The Fund was founded by local civic leaders to help solve the problem of multiple fund drives in the area and to provide a broad and more stable basis of support agencies that formerly conducted the ninth county. 24 credited for the agencies serving citizens of the nrth ecunty. 24 ccredted separate fund drives will be sup ported by the United Fund camp aign. All funds will be raised by volunteers. Mrs. Darlington is a candidate for councilman of the town of Bed ford Central District School Board from 1954 to 1957, acting as presi dent in the last year of her term and was a member of the West chester County Planning Commis sion for two years. Honored for Citizenship A native of Minnesota, she at tended school in the midwest and attended the University of Chica go. Last year the university hon ored her for good citizenship and distinguished public service. (More more) Before her marriage she was the executive secretary on the Chicago Council on Foreign Rela tions and member of the Amer ican Committee of the League of Nations in Geneva in 1931. Mrs. Darhngotn has been active in hospital work in New York and in London. At the Memorial Cen ter for Cancer and Allied Diseas es, she has served as a member MRS. CHARLES DARLINGTON 'Pops' Music In Concerts Music lovers in the area will have an opportunity to hear good \pops\ music through the month of August, when the Westchester Pops Band under the sponsorship of the Westchester County Recrea tion Commission, will continue its summer concerts every Tuedsay evening throug Aug. 18 at 8 p m This outdoor concert series is under the direction of Joseph J. Cappello and is held at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. These con certs are free to the public and in addition to the aggregation of in strumentalists will feature the Westchester Pops Little Chorus and guest artists. In case of rain, the concert will be held on the fol lowing evening. HIGH PENSION PELHAM MANOR—Police Chief James McCaVrey. who retires in September after 41 years of serv ice, was voted a pension of $5,000 a year, substantially more than normal. The village board said that the action was taken in recog nition of the chief's outstanding service. The least a chief can re ceive in pension is $3,975 a year. While in London be tween 1949 and 1953 she was a volunteer in the Royal Free Can cer Hospital and the only Ameri can woman on the board of the women's auxiliary of the hospital. Aided Hospital Fund With the United Hospital Fund of New York, a combined drive organized to reduce fund-raising costs and support member hospi tals in the metropolitan area, Mrs. Darlington has been chairman of the medical society, a member of the service council, and a member of the women's executive commit tee. At present she is chairman for the women's sub-committee for dis tribution, which divides funds raised on a formula basis. She is a member of the executive com mittee of this key group. Mrs. Darlington is a member of the Board of the Metropolitan Opera Guild anc> Chairman of the education committee of the Guild. She is now chairman of the execu tive committee of the Guild's board. After her marriage to Mr. Dar lington in 1931 she lived in Switzer land and in Washington, D.C., be fore moving to the town of Bed ford in 1902. where she and Mr. Darlington now live. Armonk Teacher Becomes Bride Of Ossining Man Mr. and Mrs. Neal A. Schantz have returned from a trip to Nantucket and are residing at 111 S. Highland Ave., Ossining. Mrs. Schantz, who will teadh music in the two elementary schools in Armonk in the fall, is the former Miss Patsy Lee Wy- man, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wyman of Hudson Falls. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Schantz of 4 Genung Dr., Ossining. The couple was married July 11 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Da vid S Blackshear officiating. Bridal attendants were Miss Val erie Turner of York, Pa., cousin of the bride, and George Straub of Blue Bell, Pa. Mrs. Schantz is a graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College.
