Kirchhoff. 1st Standard Flower Show To be Staged Two horticultural classes, dahl ias and vegetables, will be open to the public in the flower show to be held by Basket Town Garden Club at the High Ridge Country Club, 2-9 p.m., Sept. 17, it was an nounced by Mrs. Walter MacKin non, horticultural chairman. There are five divisions in the classes for dahlias, Mrs. MacKin non explained: (a) specimen bloom, disbudded, any variety, rge over eight inches, (b) speci- ment bloom, disbudded, any vari ety, intermediate, (c) miniature, 3 blooms, under four inches, one va riety, (d) pompons, under two inches, 3 blooms, one variety, and (e) seedlings 3 sprays. \Dinner for GBS\ the name giv en the class for vegetables, is to be a collection of vegetables in a suitable container, supplied by the exhibitor, to be staged in a space 24\ wide. The vegetables exhibited must have been grown by the ex hibitor. This is the first standard flower show to be staged by the Basket Town Garden Club, member of the Ninth District Federated Garden Clubs of New York State. A vacation church school spon- Sv~ed cooperatively by the Metho dist and Presbyterian Churches of Katonah was announced this week. The summer Christian Education project which will begin Aug. 17 and will continue through Aug. 28 will include children who will be entering kindergarten this fall and' all boys and girls who will be en tering the first, second, third and fourth grades. The school will be held in the parish house of the Katonah Metho dist Church and will be in session between the hours of 9:30 and 11:45 each morning, Monday through Friday, during the dates announced. BOOK CONTROVERSY BRIARCLIFF MANOR - The controversy in Moscow over books being displayed at the American exhibition is presently raging around the head of a Briarcliff Manor resident. Thomas J. Mc Laughlin of 56 Crest Dr., was com missioned by the State Depart ment through the American Book Publishers' Council to organize the display which was screened by the U. S.
