NAME IT FOR YONKERS! YONKERS - Who coined the I name \Westchester Industrial Cen ter\? Why can't it be changed tc \Yonkers Industrial Center\? The Yonkers Chamber of Commerce may'not come up with the answer to the first question, but in its traditional battle against un-Yon- lurs activities the chamber's di rectors may come up with the an swer to the second. They have voted for a movement to rechris- ten the center with the second ti tle. The center comprises a group I of 47 manufacturers with nearly 3,800 employes, housed in the va rious buildings of the Old Alexand er Smith Co., carpet makers. CANADA 22 North Westchester Times, Mt. Board Urges Winter Golf At Mohansic An appeal that Mohansic Golf Course in Yorktown be allowed to remain open for winter golf this year was sent to the Westchester Park Commission by the Board of Supervisors yesterday. Supervisors Joseph Martin (D- Peekskill) and Robert Brooks (R- Peekskill) submitted a joint reso lution stating that there were many golfers in northern West chester, including three golf leagues, who use Mohansic be cause of its proximity to their homes. The Park Commission has de cided again to keep Saxon Woods and Dunwoodie Golf courses open for winter golf. In other matters, the Town of Harrison through its Supervisor Alfred Sulla Jr. asked that legis lation be enacted increasing the county payment of $200 a mile to each town and village for snow and ice removal from county roads. Harrison said the present $200 rate has applied since 1946, and that the amount did not cover costs. Supervisor Leonard Berman (R Mount Vernon) majority leader recalled that the Board recently had rejected a similar proposal by another community. Sulla also asked that \remain der\ properties left over from the New England Thruway in Harri son be conveyed to his town. He said his town had taken the pro perty off its tax rolls when it ac quired by the County for a Pel- ham-Port Chester Parkway and that now the town should be en titled to \recoup\ its loss by us ing the land for municipal or rec reation purposes. Supervisor An thony J. Posillipo (D-Rye Town) suggested that the whole disposal Question for all towns be settled at one time. Berman stated that delay in dis posal of the land is partly because the state had not set its boundary lines. Rail Safety Hearing Supervisor Thomas McSpedon (D-Yonkers 6th Ward) asked that the county be represented at a public hearing Dec. 4 at 10 a. m. which the PSC is holding in New York. McSpedon said that the New York Central is trying to discon tinue watchman service and man ually operated gates at the White Plains-Tarrytown Rd. crossing of the Putnam Division tracks at Elmsford. McSpedon said that a dangerous condition would result. The railroad, which has stopped Putnam passenger service, still operates freight service. Posillipo took issue with a letter from Alan Levine, an attorney of New Rochelle, asking the county to acquire Green Valley Golf Course, Rye Town, which an air craft firm is interested in buying for executive offices. Posillipo stared that his town was against the County acquiring the property as a golf course—that the school district needed some re lief for its tax base. The Budget Committee of the Board concurred with an earlier report from the Legislation Com mittee allowing County Attorney Harry Herman to send one of his assistants to Albany during im portant weeks of the State Legis lature to keep track of County bills.
