Johnson, State Superin tendent of Public Works, Thurs day, announced receipt of a low bid of $287,477 from A. E. Ottavia- ,no, Inc., Croton-on-Hudson, for re location of a 0.94 mile section of Route 118 in Westchester County, starting at the Underhill Road in tersection south of Yorktown Heights and extending northward on new location, west of the pres ent route, to Route 35, bypassing the Yorktown business section. Five bids were received. The new road will have a 24-foot [wide concrete pavement flanked by eight-foot shouldlers. Included in the project will be construction of drainage structures and facili ties, erection of guide posts and beam-type guide railing, disposal of five buildings, landscaping and miscellaneous related work. Weather permitting, work is ex pected to begin shortly after a con tract for the work is officially ex ecuted. The contract wall be award ed—following a routine check by State engineers of all bids received -to the contractor who is found to have submitted the lowest valid bid. There is usually a lapse of about one month between receipt of bids and contract award. Originally scheduled for the let- tings of Aug. 7 and 28, this pro ject was withdrawn both times for furfher study. The $299,000 esti mate for both August lettings was raised to $334,000 for today's let ting.
