Post Rd., White Plains Hearing Aid by ACOUSTICON OF WHITE PLAINS 55 Court St. (Across from Court House) WHite Plains 64878 Robert Hamershlag had pre pared a resume of the history of the Bedford Audubon Society which was read by past president Don ald Slobohm. The Society was re activated in response to a letter published by Stanley Grierson and it began with 74 members. Today the membership is over 400. A number of outstanding advances of conservation practices have been advocated by the Society dur ing the last ten years. In 1951 the society sponsored Mr. Grierson as a teacher in 12 of the community schools, a plan which the schools followed until Mr. Grierson's res ignation to teach in the Rippowan School. The Audubon Room was set up by the Society in 1953 with Mrs. Louis Owens as its head. Mrs. Daniel Quigley is now the chair man of these educational activi ties. Awards Given Mr. Shoumatoff presented framed awards to Douglas Orbison, Rob ert Hamershlag and Mrs. Grierson in appreciation of their efforts on behalf of the society. These men, chosen to represent the many who have contributed to the work of the Society, were officers of the Society in 1948 and have since be come directors and committeemen. More more more more Kis annual Meeting — two ad9 Mr. Shoumatoff introduced Ivan T. Sanderson, world famous zoo logist and television presonality, who was the speaker of the eve ning. Mr. Sanderson pointed out how little we know about the earth on which we live and how much of what appears tq be a mystery may some day be explained by scientific investigation. With amus ing gestures, he told the saga of the reappearing foot prints, prints of a three-toed animal found on the floor of the ocean under the arctitc ice, on the shore of Florida beaches and on islands all over the world. The web-footed prints were made by an animal eignt feet high weigning one and a half tons and able to walk on its two legs both on land and under wa ter. Mr. Sanderson proposed that this may be some form of a giant penguin. He claimed that many of the so-called mythological monsters, tsuch as the Lock Ness sea ser pents, may actually exist. He said that the kraken was, in all proba bility a giant squid and that the Abominable Snow Man might be intermediate between apes and hu man beings. Mr. Sanderson stress ed the ever-increasing need for knowledge to overcome our stu pidity. A film of the American Fla mingo colony of Yucatan brought the evening to a close. The pageant is presented each year by the Sun day School, under the direction of Miss Julia Hemes. Because of the large attendance in previous years, the pageant will be given this year at 5 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Children attending Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. will be in the 5 o'clock presentation, and those attending the 11:15 a.m. ses sions of the Sunday School will be in the 7 o'clock pageant. It is suggested that adults follow the same schedule in attending the pageant, so that there will be no overcrowding and no one will be turned away because of lack of room in the church. The Junior High Choir newly organized by Gordon Stearns, as sistant minister of the church, will sing, as will the Junior Choir. Both are under the direction of Mrs. Paul H. Dowe. Every mem ber of the congregation is urged to attend. 3ERMUDA COIN PLANNED Bermuda, which issues her own paper currency, will strike a spe cial Crown coin in commemoration of its 350th anniversary as, a Brit ish colony in 1959.
