Y., March 27, 1958 WALL FALLS YONKERS—A stone wall, de scribed as between 15 and 20 feet high,, collapsed into a back yard at 131 ^Brandon Rd. at 11:10 March 23. Apparently weakened by water runoff from melting sndw, about 40 linear feet fell on the property of Sebastian Scialdone, it was reported. Special Liturgy, Music To Mark Holy Week in MK Palm Sunday/ and Holy Week services in the several Mount Kis co churches with special liturgy and music, will be the prelude to the Feast of the Resurrection, greatest of the Christian holy days, marking the ascent from the grave by Christ and known as Easter Sunday. St. Mark's Episcopal Church will begin Palm Sunday with the bless ing of palms and a Holy Commun ion service at eight o'clock. The procession of palms and Morning Prayers will take place at 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m., with special mu sic by the choir. Holy Communion services will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 and 10 a.m. On Holy Thursday the Choral Communion and sermon will be held at 8:30 p.m. Good Friday will have the Children's Service at 10 a.m., the Commemoration of the Cross between 12 noon and 3 p.m. and the presentation of Han del's \Messiah\ by the Senior and Junior Choirs of the church at 8:30 p.m. On Easter Saturday the Lit any and Ante-Communion will take place at 10 a.m. and the admin istration of the Sacrament of Bap tism will be held at 5 p.m. At St. Francis of Assisi Church for the second time this year, the evening ritualistic marking of the Holy Days will be used. Palms will be blessed just before this Mass and distrib uted at all the subsequent Masses at 8, 9, 10:15 and 11:30 a.m. Confessions will be heard on Wednesday in preparation for Holy Thursday between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. and again between 7:30 and 9 p.m. An-Italian confessor will be present in the main church between 7:30 and 9 p.m. and the children of the parish will attend Confession at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Evening Mass On Holy Thursday, the first Mass will be at 7 a.m., a chil dren's Mass will be said at 5 p.m. and the festival High Mass will be said at 8 p.m., at which the com bined choirs will sing. Holy Com munion will be distributed at all of these Masses. On Good Friday at 3 p.m. the Mass of the Pre-Sanctified will be gin at 3 p.m. at which Holy Com munion will be distributed. In the evening the service will consist of Veneration of the Cross and the Stations, at 8 p.m.. Holy Saturday, the Vigil of the Resurrection, will be marked by a candle will be blessed, as will the holy water. The candlelight serv ice will feature a solemn proces sion, renewal of baptismal vows and High Mass. Confessions on Easter Saturday will be held be tween 3:30 and 6 p.m. only. Two Services At the Mount Kisco Presbyterian Church Palm Sunday will have two services the first at 9:30 a.m. and the second at 11 o'clock*. At the latter service the Adult Choir will give the \Palms\ by Faure. On Holy Thursday evening at 8:15 p.m. the Lord's Supper will be celebrated with members of the Mount Kisco Methodist Church, who have been invited to unite with the Presbyterian con gregation. This is the anniversary night of the first such observance when Christians everywhere ex press their unity with Him. The Adult Choir will offer the spiritual \Wore You There?,\ and a spe cially selected duet will be sung by Mrs. Robert Betts and Mrs. Edgar Crossland. To Dedicate Gowns Palms will be distributed at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. services in the Lutheran Church of the Resurrec tion on Sunday and the Junior Choir will sing at the latter serv ice, in the newly purchased gowns which will be dedicated during the ceremony. On Tuesday at 2 p.m. women of the parish will assemble for a Worship Hour and Meditation. On Holy Thursday the Holy Commun ion Service will be held at 8:15 p.m. and at 9:30 p.m. the 12-hour Vigil Prayer service will begin, continuing to 9:30 a.m. Good Fri day morning. On Good Friday at 10 a.m. the Children's Worship Service will take place, to be followed by the two-hour meditation and worship service at noon. The cantata \The Crucifixion\ by Stainer will be given by the Chancel Choir at 8:15 p.m. Afternoon Service At St. Francis AME Zion Church the Palm Sunday service will be Lead§ the EASTER PARADE! held at 3:30 p.m. with a guest preacher, the Rev. C. C.'Williams, preaching the sermon and the pas tor, the Rev. Henry White assist ing in the service. The results of the State Rally Building Fund project will also be part of the service. On Good Friday at 8 p.m. spe cial services and a cantata will take place. , At Bethel Baptist Church, Palm Sunday services at U a.m. will in clude the distribution of palm and a special program of music by the choir. On Holy Thursday a Holy Communion service will be held at 8 p.m. and on Good Friday at the same time a prayer service and meditation period will take place. Tlje pastor, the Rev. Ben jamin Griffin, who has been ill for the past month, hopes to be well enough to preach the Palm and Easter Sunday sermons. The Mount Kisco Methodist Church services on Palm Sunday will be held at 9:30 and U a - m - with the Sacrament of Baptism and reception of new members being held on this day. The Rev. C. Pershing Hunter will preach the sermon and Organist George Mat thew Jr. will present his choirs in his first Palm Sunday program. Here is what the Army has to of fer: If an applicant has never been on active duty with an American Armed Service and can meet the physical and mental requirements, he is eligible for this special en listment. And if he's accepted, he will travel to Fort Hood, Texas, for eight rugged weeks of basic training and then move on to Eu rope to join his outfit, the Third Armored Division. Like all Army men, he will get 30 days of paid vacation each year as well as free medical' and den tal care, not to speak of the oppor tunities for advancement and au tomatic raises in pay. Today's headlines underscore the educational importance of foreign travel, and no duty assignment can be more fun than Europe, ac cording to Army spokesman. Family Party Marks St. Patricks Day Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Critzer Sr. of Smith Avenue attended a fam ily dinner party in New York City St. Patrick's Day which assem bled Mrs. Critzer's paternal rela tives. ' Mrs. William O'Connor, of Ford- ham, sister of Mrs. Critzer's fa ther, the late John Roche was hostess for the party, the other member of that generation who was present being Michael Roche. The centerpiece for the dining ta ble was sent by James Roche of Byram Lake Road, who was un able to attend. It appropriately contained heather and bells of Ireland. Percheron is the name breed of draft horses. of a Good Friday, at 8:15 p.m. the Senior Choir of the Mount Kisco Methodist Church will present Part 2 of Handel's oratorio, \The Messiah.\ The choir will be as sisted by four soloists, Mrs. Miller B. Spangler, soprano, of Yorktown Heights, formerly director of mu sic at Grace Methodist Church, Chicago, Mrs. Edward Hokanson of Mount Kisco, contralto soloist of the local church for 'many years; Dr. Hortoh Lindsley, bass, soloist and Steven Kohotek, tenor soloist of Fifth Avenue Presbyteri an Church of New York City. The music is under the direction of George Matthew Jr., organist. Part 2 of \The'Messiah\ opens with' the chorus, \Behold the Lamb of God\ and depicts, through musical settings, the Mes sianic prophesies from Isaiah and other Old Testament writings, the fasting, temptation, deaths and resurrection of Jesus, and the er ring of His flock. Part 2 closes with one of the most famous of all musical compositions*, \The Hallelujah Chorus.\ Pre-Nuptial Shower Fetes Miss Burke Miss Una Burke, a member of the nursing staff of the Northern Westchester Hospital was feted on March 16 at a miscellaneous show er given by Mrs. Frank Moran of Chappaqua. Twenty-five friends were pres ent for the occasion which used the St. Patrick's Day colors in shower decorations and buffet ta ble, the centerpiece being green carnations, bells of Ireland and fern. Miss Burke is the fiancee of Harry Kamph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kamph of Bedford Hills and the daughter of Thomas Burke of Colmanstown, Ireland and the late Mrs. Burke. A May wedding is planned. ODD MAN OUT OSSINING — The School Board will try again next month to break a three-month deadlock on a de cision to add an elementary school librarian and a second full-time psychologist. In February, the vote was 3-3, with trustee Alfred Hea- gle absent. In March, the vote was the same, but this time Mr Heagle has resigned. Miss Garrett will graduate from the Woman's College of the Uni versity of North Carolina in June. Mr. Little, a sophomore at Elton College, Elon, N. Kong> ; China, will .be - \the guest speaker when the Women's Society of 'the Mount Kisco Pres byterian Church holds jts ail-day meeting, in Fellowship Hall on April 3 beginning at 10:30 a.m. A business meeting will occupy the morning session with plans for the annual foo3 sale and tea on April 25 being discussed. At 12:30 members of the Wom en's Guild will be invited fori luncheon with Miss Schaefer, aft er which she will relate her expe riences in .the Far East. Miss Schaefer, who is director of education at the Hip Woh Pri mary School in Hong Kong, has spent many years in the Orient, being stationed in Bangkok, Thai land from 1920 to 1930, when in ternal conditions were turbulent. In 1936 she .moved on to Canton where she was in charge of the Ming Sum ^School for the Blind. Wars which ravished the area caused her to flee and for many weeks she shepherded her blind charges'on'three houseboats. In terned by the Japanese, and then repatriated, she-was unable to re turn to the school until 1946. Meantime the rising tide of Communism made the work in creasingly difficult, endangering as it did the Christians in China. Miss Schaefer than came home, being later assigned to Hong Kong in 1951. The school is for refugees and has an enviable reputation for academic standards as well as religious education. Miss Schaefer is a, former Katonah resident and was educated at the New York Training School for Teachers. VFW Unit Names Chappaqua Woman Mrs. Jeanette Jorgensen of Chappaqua was re-elected presi dent of the Auxiliary of the Bed ford Memorial Post No. 9254, VFW, when a meeting was' held at the home of Mrs. Richard Jackson of Woodland Rd., Bedford Hills on Tuesday, March 18. Other officers elected were Mrs. Robert Dunn, senior vice presi dent; Miss Laura Kelly, junior vice president; Mrs. Homer Losee, sec retary; Mrs. Thomas Brennan, treasurer; Mrs. Clara Lancaster,, chaplain; Mrs. Richard Jackson, conductress; Mrs. Eugene Tipa,. guard, and Mrs. Kenneth Smith, trustee for three years'.
