Page 5 Gouverneur Tribune Press, Friday, August 21,2009 SPECIAL TO THE TRIBUNE What could be better than being the first recipient of the Weldon Memorial Fund, which sent Ethan Constance and Blake Spilman out to Dubois, Wyoming last year? It was the opportunity to return again this year, and take a good friend with him to share the experience with. Tommy Morrow was chosen as the recipient of the Joe Weldon Memorial Fund this year, to go to Wyoming with Ethan and continue the legacy of Joe and experience all that he loved about it. Joe lost his life last year as a passenger in an automobile accident. A memorial fund was set up by his parents, Danny and Gina Weldon, of Gouverneur, along with Fritz and Connie Meyer, and other friends that worked with Joe at the Wind River Mountain Outfitters. The fund was set up to provide other kids the opportunity to go out to Wyoming, and in remembrance of Joe, experience everything that Joe had wanted people to know and see about what he loved so much. The fund is set up at the Community Bank and as long as there are donations put into the fund, the family will continue to send other kids to Wyoming. Ethan and Tommy were taken to the airport by their fathers, Randy Constanoe & John Morrow. The flight out and back went without any complications. The boys were amazed at the little airport they flew into in Jackson, which was covered with elk horns around the entrance door. Cody Brown, a friend of Joes, picked the boys up and took them to Fritz M.eyer's home. On their travels they saw red rocks and the vast .. Tommy Morrow chosen to carry on Joe Weldon's dream range of mountains. Ethan tried to explain what he saw. He said, \you could see as far as..,.\ then he thought for a moment and said, \as far as your eyes could see,\ trying to hold back his emotions, as he thought of Joe, and counted his own blessings. The boys had the opportunity to travel with Fritz on a pack trip over the top of Whiskey Mountain with 20 pack horses, which was the record so far. They there to help out. They loaded tons of hay with Jarred, an activity that both boys are very used to, since Tommy works on the family farm, and Ethan loads hay three days a week with a friend. They had the opportunity to ride their horses down to the arena, where the rodeos are held each weekend. They pretended they were real \cowboys\ for the day, even before he was taken away too soon. These two healthy young boys will forever remember their trip out west together, and the reason they had this wonderful opportunity. took 70 fifty pound bags of though neither of the boys feed up to their elk hunting rode a bull camp, to be used this fall for the guided Elk hunts. The trails were very steep, with many switchbacks; nothing like the trails around here. Another day they were treated to a 4- wheeler trip with another friend Rich. They even came upon some antelope. They also got to do a little work while they were Both boys returned home with a sense of gratitude toward the Weldon family for allowing them to have this once in a lifetime experience. Even though nobody can bring Joe back, they can still keep him in their memories, and live out the dream that he was living, Btprtpmi ® drastic ckiges liavefeeen made fo Icewi/ij fm.
