Girl Scout Troop 340 dedicates Peace Pole at Riverview Park Girl scout troop 340, Gouverneur, spent this year learning about the power of one, a team, aird a community as a whole. That knowledge inspired them to try to see that power in action and try to unite their community in a 'celebration of one voice, one spirit. A message that can continueto empower us to live in a positive fashion. On Sunday, August 2, the girls presented a world peace ceremony at Gouverneur's Riverview Park in the hope of uniting hearts in prayer for peace on earth and to dedicate a peace pole to Gouverneur as a symbol linking people of all faiths. \May Peace Prevail On Earth\ is written on all four sides of the pole, in English', French, Italian, and Spanish. Earlier in the season tem- peratures in the 70s and lots of rain was the norm. But the past several days have had North Countryfolks searching for ways to cool off. Monday and Tuesday the temperature in Gouverneur cracked the 90- degree mark for the first time this season. We searched for a cooler spot on Tuesday and ended up at Sylvia Lake... the air was 15 degrees cooler and the water... according to the many kids who were enjoying the day... was cool and re- freshing.
