The Russell United Methodist Church is hosting a Vacation Bible School (VBS) on Saturday, August 29 from 9am until 3pm at the New York Christian Retreat Campus on Hatch Road in Hermon. Children ages 3-12 are invited to attend with an adult accompanying the preschoolers. Registration will begin at 9am with a parental signature form. The VBS is entitled \El Ranchero Roundup\ and will have a western cowboy theme with horseback riding, Richville News games and crafts, Bible story,- a \chuck wagon-style\ lunch, a buckin' bronco, campfire singing and a tug- of-war! Buckaroos are encouraged to wear their cowboy and cowgirl gear, Everyone will receive a cowboy hat and bandana. Call Judy for information at .347-2543. The Village of Hermon will participate in the final round of the New York State Water Taste Test at the New York State Fair on Tuesday, September 1. The Ecumenical Prayer and Shawl group will meet Saturday, August 29 at Keitha Maclntyre's camp from 10am to 2pm. Bring a sandwich and join in with knitting and crocheting or just visiting. Jeanette Bovay and Bernie Aldrich attended Bemie's great niece, Brooke LaForty's wedding to Andrew Shaw on Saturday, August 15 at the First Congregational Church of Antwerp. The reception immediately followed at the Best Western Carriage House Inn at Watertown. .It was good to see relatives and friends, many traveled along distance from various states. On Sunday August 23, DeGrasse and Hermon United Methodist Churches will join the Russell United Methodist Church at 9:30am for services. The following Sunday, August 30, all Seven Steeples United Methodist Churches will meet in their Own churches. Summer hours will be done. Welsh Church service is Sunday, August 30 at 2pm By Lila Youngs Don't forget the Welch Church service on Sunday, August 30 at 2pm. After the service, Sandy Wyman will 'be the guest speaker. All are invited to attend this interesting program that presents a glance back to the past of people from Wales who settled in this area. August 8 was the date for a surprise party for Carl and Helen Rivers of Richville. They went to their camp in Russell expecting to cookout and enjoy the coolness. They found an anniversary party instead! The party was arranged by their four children and included a visit from their son Joseph who came from Virginia and Helen's sister Evelyn and Ernie Brown from Clifton Park and Vicky Meillo from Latham. This is the 50\' for Carl and Helen. They were married at St. John's Church in Madrid on August 8, 1959 with Harold and Rose Peterson as attendants. They have four children, Carl Jr and wife Janet, Gary, Lisa Middlemiss and her husband Jeff and Joseph. All of their children were at the party as well as five of their seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In all 32 guests enjoyed the lovely day complete with a lovely anniversary cake decorated with white and yellow. As part of the festivities the family went to Madrid to the church where the wedding took place 50 years ago. The Richville Historical Association held its annual picnic at the museum on Wednesday, August tl2. Those present were Cindy Cardinell, Janet Du'sharm, Mary Ellen LaFalce, Keitha Mullin, Doris Putman, Judy Sibley, Stella Tamblin and Lila Youngs. AH enjoyed a grand repast. Following the meal, a birthday cake was presented to Mary Ellen LaFalce to honor her birthday that was August 13. The party was to celebrate the graduation of daughter and granddaughter Samantha from Hermon-DeKalb as well as a going away party. She will be attending college in Tampa this fall. On August 15, Edith (Edie) Hanlon arid Edward Augur were married at the VFW in Gouverneur. The ceremony was very beautiful with the reception following. Those attending from this general area were Bud and Lila Youngs, Dorothy Dana, Louis and Diane LaBarge, David and Samantha LaBarge and Don and Memory Payne. On Sunday, August 16 a number of Richville Residents were in Macomb to enjoy the music provided by Mike White and Dale Streeter. They were Doris Putman, Sue Cartwright, Laura Lenahan, Lila Youngs, Stella Tamblin, Archie and Linda Whitton. In the Grade Class Mia Brown took Best of Breed, Bethany Burnham and her Senior Doe took Best of Breed in the Lop Class. In the Rex Class Mia Brown again took Best of Breed and the Netherland Class saw Tim Bowman and his Senior Doe taking top honors. Kylynne Stamper and Junior Buck Were Breed Champions in the Purebred Adults weighing seven (7) pounds and under category. The Purebred Adults weighing over seven (7) pounds was again favorable for Kylynne Stamper with her Senior Doe taking Breed Champion also.
