Hitchman Jr. The funeral service for Donald C. \Red\ Boutilier, 85, of Gouverneur, was Tuesday, July 7,2009, at the French Funeral Home, Gouverneur, with Rev. Wilfred Baez officiating. Burial followed in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Mr. Boutilier died on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur. Born on January 19, 1924, in Syracuse, son of the late Lindsey and Mary (Bouchey) Boutilier. lie graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in 1943. i Mr. Boutilier served in the United States Army during WWII from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He received the American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He married Joyce M. Tuffley on February 14, 1948, inTully, at the Tully First Baptist Church. The couple has lived in Gouverneur since 1950. He worked as a mason for Rouse Construction, Gouverneur, for many years and retired as a mason from the Ogdensburg Psychiatric Center in 1988. Mr. Boutilier was a member of the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church, the Gouverneur Elks Lodge and American Legion. He was an avid golfer and member of the Gouverneur Country Club and the former 4 X 4 Golf Course. . His survivors include his wife, Joyce of Gouverneur; a son, James D. and his wife, Julie Boutilier of Friendswood, Texas; two daughters, Jill M. Boutilier of Jamesville, and Mrs. Alan (Joan) B. Mason of Gouverneur; a sister, Lucille Culotti of Marcellus; five grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, James and Earl; arid three sisters, Ella Isham, Laura Carter, and Dorothy Boutilier. Donations in Red's memory may be made to the Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department, the Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad, or the Gouverneur Cemetery Association. There will be no funeral service for Henry F. \Hitch\ Hitchman Jr., 69, of Gouverneur. Calling hours- will be on Thursday, July 9, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Mr, Hitchman died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at E.J., Noble Hospital, Gouverneur after being stricken at home. Born on April 11,1940, in Gouverneur, to the late Henry and Mae E. (Smith) Hitchman Sr.. He attended Gouverneur Central School. Mr. Hitchman married Judy A. Hutton on January 30,1960 in Gouverneur with Rev. Stanley Brown officiating. Fie was a production foreman in the Gouverneur area stone industry (Quarry) for 39 years starting with Balducci up until his retirement in 1999 from Basins Inc. He also ran a heifer farm on Chub Lake Road, Theron B. Stevens RICHVILLE — A graveside service for Theron B. Stevens, 96, United Helpers Nursing Home, Canton, and formerly of Richville and tlermon, was • Monday, July 6, 2009, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville, with Karen Taylor, pastor of the'United Church of Richville, officiating. Arrangements were with Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Mr. Stevens, passed away Thursday July 2,2009, at. the nursing home where he had been a resident since June of 2002. Born in the town of Hermon on May 18, 1913, the son of Theodore and Mabel (Worden) Stevens. He attended Hermon schools. He married Nancy L. Paige on August 22, 1936 in Canton with the Rev. Charles Carter officiating. Mrs. Stevens died September 20, 1980. Mr. Stevens worked on farms in the DeKalb area for three years before purchasing a farm in the town of Hermon in 1941 which he operated until retiring in 1982. He was a member of the United Church of Richville and Richville Couples Club. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Howard Gotham, Milford, NH; two sons and three daughters-in- law Merritt Stevens, Timothy and-Susan Stevens, all of Richville, Judy Stevens, Plattsburgh, and Rose Arno, Chazy Lake; .13 grandchildren; 28 great- grandchildren; seven great- great-grandchildren; nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Harold Stevens; a granddaughter, Marybeth Stevens; four sisters Shirley Stevens, Bessie Morrow, June Morrow, and Phoebe Stevens; and two brothers Merritt and Merrill Stevens. MacQueen, Sr., 92, of Gouverneur, was Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carol Bain officiating. Burial, with military honors, followed in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Funeral arrangements were with French Funeral flome, Gouventeur Df. MacQueen died on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at home under the care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Born on March 16, 1917, in Prescott, Ontario,- Canada, son of the late William Stanley and Elizabeth Underwood (Carruthers) MacQueen. He graduated from Ogdensburg- Free Academy and St. Lawrence University. Fie furthered his school by graduating from McGill Dental College in 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 until 1946 as well as during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1955. Dr. MacQueen married Elizabeth Ruth Stacey on September 16, 1945, in Montreal, Canada. The couple moved to Gouverneur in 1946 where Dr. MacQueen operated his dental office for forty years, retiring in I98'6. Mrs. MacQueen died on November 12,2007. Dr. MacQueen was a member of the Gouverneur Ann G Brown Gouverneur, for over 40 years. .He raised Belgian Drafts. Henry enjoyed spending time with his family and going to cattle auctions. Surviving besides his wife Judy of Gouverneur are two daughters, Tammy and Bruce Patton of Gouverneur, and Kelly Reynolds and her companion Rick Jesmer also of Gouverneur; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Margarite L Grandy HERMON-Thefuneral service for Margarite L. \Maggie\ Grandy, 92, Kinney Nursing Home, Gouverneur, and formerly of Russell and Hermon, was Monday, July 6, 2009 at French Funeral Home, Edwards. Burial followed at Hermon Cemetery. Mrs. Grandy died Thursday, July 2,2009, at the nursing home, where she had been a resident since May. Born on November 29, 1916, in the town of Podunk, to the late Phineas and Genevieve (Stalbird) Reed. She was the third child in a family of seven children. She attended Hermon School. Maggie married John B. Grandy on April 19, 1936, at the family home in Flermon. Mr. and Mrs. Grandy operated the family farm along with the Lazy River Play Ground. Mr. Grandy died on December 16, 1979. Mrs. Grandy was a homemaker as well as a co- owner of the families summer resort on Lazy River in Hermon fro'm 1940-1980. She also operated a restaurant in Russell during the winter months. She lived in Russell moving to Gouverneur in 1983. She was a member of, the Jehovah's Witness Hall in Hailesboro where she was a former minister. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Patricia Ann) Davis, of Russell; a son Harold John \Johnny\ of the Bayley House in Massena; a stepson, Francis \Red\ Grandy, of Hermon; 'two sisters Minnie McCumber, Gouverneur, and Mrs. Gerry (Anna) Armes of Somerville; six grandchildren, fifteen great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Maggie was predeceased by two sons who died in early infancy, John Jay and Meldon; two stepdaughters, Pauline Reed and Jean Rawson; a stepson Lloyd Grandy; and three sisters, Lulu Casselman, Laura Barr and Helen Weaver Bresett. HEUVELTON-Funeral services for Ann G. Brown, 87, a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home, formerly of State Highway 184 Heuvelton, and a native ,of Gouverneur, were held on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Heuvelton, with Rev. Jay Seymour officiating. Place of Rest is at Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg. Funeral arrangements were with the Fox-McLellah Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mrs. Brown passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the nursing home surrounded by her family. Born January 27, 1922, in Gouverneur, the daughter of the late Claude and Agnes (Short) Gates. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1941 and the Rochester Business Institute that was branched in Watertown. She married Mansel E. Brown on June 14, 1946, at the St. James Church in Gouverneur. Mr. Brown died in 1996. She was employed at J.J. Newberry's, Gouverneur, during high school and then worked, for the Gouverneur Talc Mines as a secretary until her marriage. She and her husband operated a family farm for several years in Heuvelton Mrs. Brown was a St. Raphael's Alter & Rosary Society member. She enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Leland and Anna Brown of Rochester, and Daniel and Jodi Brown of Heuvelton; five daughters and three sons-in-law; Catherine Corrice of Canajoharie, Mary Collier of Heuvelton, Sarah and William Ryan of Waterloo, Eleanor and Mark Jacobs of Ogdensburg arid Carol and Theodora Figura of Madison, Ohio; two sisters, Leonilda \Jane\ Gates of Gouverneur, and Theresa Butler of Tennesse; a brother, Claude Gates of Gouverneur; a sister-in-law, Margaret Dixon of Waddington; a brother-in- law, Lawrence Brown of Heuvelton; 16 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and several nieces nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Yale, Kenneth, Kermit and Jerome Gates; and seven sisters, Orpha Bennett, Vera Davey, Mary Moran, Eleanor, Betty, Edith and Rita Gates.
