This could indicate the presence of fly insecticide resistance, an increasingly serious problem on NY livestock farms. Add to this, fewer insecticides are currently registered for livestock use. What is one to do about fly control? An integrated approach is the only cost-effective means to keep fly populations at manageable levels. Cornell University's Veterinary Entomology program, led by Dr. Don Rutz, has developed highly effective integrated programs that help producers minimize fly problems and thereby protect animal health, then environment, and net profitability. The upcoming workshop will offer the latest information to better manage livestock flies in and around confinement facilities as well as for animals on pasture.
