By Lila Youngs Get set for Blue Grass The Richville Historical Association located at 59 Main Street will host a free Blue Grass Concert on Wednesday, July 15 at 7pm featuring the talents of the River Grass Band. The band with Dick and Maureen Bartlett contains five members and instruments include banjos, guitars, mandolins and bass. The band has played at the Northern New York Agricultural Museum as well as the Upper Hudson Thurman Fiddlers Fling. This program is made possible in part with public furids from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program administered in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties by the St. Lawrence Arts Council. However, the plane was canceled in Syracuse and they were scheduled to leave at 6am on Wednesday. Well, it didn't happen either way. The 6am. flight turned into a 10:30 flight, missing all early connections at JFK. . An interesting, crabby bunch of people were there, they too had missed many connections. She finally left JFK at 8am arriving in Salt Lake City at 3pm our time with a four houndrive to anticipate before reaching her nephew's in Terrington, Idaho. Mark and Jen Shippee also left on June 30, different airline with connections in Chicago. They made it on time. They have had a great time, visiting relatives, a trip to Yellowstone, Craters of the Moon, etc and will be home on Thursday (this week), God willing. Bud Youngs celebrated his 77\ 1 birthday on Sunday. Sandra and Dave Jenkins and family provided a BBQ, birthday cake and a good day while the rest of the family was away. Next week share your news! Taking lead in the field expressed her delight with the graduates for the past year that was filled with creativity in the \fine\ arts department. While it has been standard practice to present an award of recognition to just one of the graduates, Ms. Muliin related to the audience that after much contemplation, she could not with the \Weird Artist of the Year for 2009\ was Jake Sweeney, son of Timothy and Jeanne Sweeney. \Every class that Jake and I have spent together, he has managed to announce that his work looks weird or that he at least thinks the project is weird. Sometime he sounds amused and he sounds concerned, but I have assured him repeatedly that \weird\ is good.\ The \Happy Artist\ award was handed to Emily Bush, daughter of Michael and Tricia Bush. \Emily has always been able to find a way to include smiley faces, hearts and stars into her work.\ Lucas Currier, son of Jerry and Tracie Currier was noted as \Thoughtful Artist.\ \Lucas always makes sure that he had plenty of thought going into each artwork, contemplating every move. Brayton Dusharm, son of Bruce and Jennifer Dusharm received the \Chatty Artist\ award. \Some have heard whistling while Brayton works but he seems to be most comfortable chatting it up with fellow classmates while he works.\ The \Warm Hearted\ artist award was presented to Christopher Fuller, son of Vernon and Michelle Fuller. \He always incorporates his favorite warm colors into . his. artwork, mostpopularjy orange. Picasso had his blue period and then his rose period, the time I have spent with Chris will be remembered as the orange period.\ Grace Leader, daughter of Henry and Dayna Leader was noted as the \Pensive Artist.\ \She always takes plenty of time, to ponder her work before starting or perhaps hashing out every possibility with Emily before considering putting a pencil to her paper.\ Top achievers noted at Southwest Tech The following students Carson Gates, Benjamin have earned the status of Hoffman, Derek Klock, Cody \Top Achievers\ at Young Southwest Tech for the marking period ending June 15.
