'/-I v The Gouverneur Chamber of •Commerce Oktoberfest committee is making plans for their second annual Oktoberfest celebration. This years events are scheduled for October 9-12. The first organizational meeting will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at Lawrence Manor/Cliamber Office 214 East Main Street, Gouverneur. Chamber officials are asking all businesses, clubs, and anyone with ideas or anyone that just wants to get involved to join them. Last years Oktoberfest was a huge success. Help make Oktoberfest 2009 an even bigger success,., get involved and join them on July 14. Joe House hospitalized at Upstate Gouverneur's Joe'H ouse continues to ulidergo treatment at SUNY\ Health Science Center (Upstate Medical) in Syracuse. Joe said Monci&ythaMie misses his friends and enemies alike and would appreciate it if folks would drop him a note to 'let him know that Gouverneur is still managing to operate without him. Room 53G8. * After learning some of the finer points of the game last week during a Wildcat Basketball Camp at at St. James School, an i-Pod was presented to Megan Morrow toy Coach Tim Knowlton (above right) for her pledges of $133 that she earned at a Community Foul-Hoop shoot in February during a unique \Dressed in Pjnk\ night that saw a total $2,300 donated to the GBW Breast Cancer Fund. Boys and girls kicked off their summer last week by taking part in Wildcat camps for both basketball and wrestling. (Sandy Wyman photo) 4-H Pre-Fair Special U.S. flag for Troop 271 Standardbred Day is July 18 This year the Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County will host the 4-H Pre-Fair and Standard bred Day on July 18, at 10 a.m., at the CCE Learning Farm at 2043 County Route 68, Canton. The schedule for the day will have riding lessons and pre-fair tips. This will also be an opportunity for completing riding evaluations. Keri and Brittany Schermerhorn will present a mini trail demonstration. The Standard bred Informational Booth will be on display for the day. The standardbred information is provided by Greta Joos and her Standardbred Clyde. A picnic lunch break will be offered, some drinks will be provided, All interested in attending is invited to bring a dish to pass. Riders will he required to provide proof of current coggins and rabies vaccination,. This program requires no fee and interested spectators are welcome. Brownie Troop 271, of Gouverneur, was presented with a very special American flag from CW3 Eugene Fuller, of Gouverneur. The flag presented to Troop 271 was flown on a combat mission in a OH-58D \Kiowa Warrior\ in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Shown with the Brownies are CW3 Fuller's daughter Kiersten and his wife, Katrina Fuller, who made the presentation. CW3 Fuller will be home in the fall. (Troop 271 photo) ;.<•$*$? j^ y--**? *-<*%: Essotiericks at Riverview Sunday A new group, made up primarily of musicians from the Gouverneur and Harrisvilie areas, will perform this Sunday, July 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Riverview Park. The Essotiericks will play in the band shell at the park as part of Riverview's Music in the Park series. The band includes front (from left): Leean Carbone, Watertown, on stand up bass; Laura Miller, Harrisvilie, on vocals; John Miller, Harrisvilie, on mandolin and violin; back: Jordan Seymour, Harrisvilie, on drums; Austin Strate, Gouverneur, on lead guitar; and Alan Betrus, Gouverneur, on rhythm guitar. The band's manager is Pete Leslie. The Essotiericks play a mixture of folk, country, pop and rock. No one will be disappointed. The Cats continue to fine-tune their 2009 routine, and will be ready to entertain the hometown crowd at the Gouverneur and St. Lawrence County Fair in August.
