Santa was in the neighborhood and word spread quickly that the man from the North Pole would soon be making his yearly appearance as part of the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce kick off to the holiday season. The atmosphere from the record turnout \was in a word, \cheerful Not only did the cheerfulness come from the soon to be magical season only now two weeks away, but \cheery\ as a whole. The roar of approval filled Main Street from one end to the other, remember it was standing room only and the flashes from cameras would have made the Super Bowl start envious, While the parade made its way to halt on Church Street, the distinct sound of the Gouvemeur Fire Department's engine turned from Park Street and the greetings given to the icon of Christmas filled the air: \Hi Santa, Over here Santa, I'm here Santa, It's Santa!\ Cheers from a thousand voices continued as Santa and his loyal followers of all ages embark to perform the annual holiday lighting of the park and then onwards to the gazebo where \Old St. Nick\ greeted a throng of youngsters who stood in awe as their turn approached.
