The community calendars are in and are in the process of being delivered. Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week? This year has flown by. The first Saturday after Thanksgiving, December 6 will be the St. James Craft Fair with an abundance of vendors, watch the Tribune for more information. Catching rip on past news, on September 13 the wedding of Seth Peck and Brenda Oliver took place. Seth is the son of Gilbert and Claire Peck of River Road, Richviile and Brenda is the daughter of Robert and Ann Oliver of Marcellus. The Peck family all attended the wedding plus Seth's brother Zack Peck was best man and sisters Emily Hermon News By Bernice Aldrich The Hermon-DeKalb Cub Scouts are getting ready for their Pine Wood Derby race on November 25 and are now in the process of building race cars out of wood. The pies that the Cub Scouts sold were delivered on Wednesday, November 19. In December the troop plan to go caroling and take fruit baskets to the McBrier Senior Citizens complex in Hermon plus the Sunrise Senior Citizens complex in DeKalb Junction. A very large crowd attended the Hermon Fire Department's breakfast recently. On Saturday, November 15, the ecumenical prayer shawl group attended the South. Edwards Methodist Church's fall luncheon and bazaar. The lunch was delicious and it was good to see old friends. The Seven Steeples will meet on Sunday, November 23 at 7pm at the Hermon Methodist Church for the union Thanksgiving service. The Seven Steeples Charge conference will be held on Sunday, November 30 at the DeKalb Junction Methodist Church. On Thursday, November 13, Toni Lewis and Bernie Aldrich attended the St. Lawrence County Council of Senior Citizens near Potsdam. On Saturday, December 6, Santa will be at the Hermon Hepburn Library. Please come and see Santa! Decker and Hannah Peck were bridesmaids. The young couple will be at home in Cazenovia where Seth works as parts manager for Cazenovia Equipment and Brenda is stable manager and gives riding lessons. Lulu and Charlie Papp, Cora and Dick Watson attended the retirement party held for Pat Rabideau, Deputy County Clerk at the Phoenix on the Bay in Ogdensburg on Saturday evening. On Monday evening, November 10, Amy Sands from the Cooperative Extension Office attended the Richviile Rockets 4-H club meeting. Ms. Sands presented Gold Certificates to Tyler Bowman and Morgan Stinson and Tim Bowman received an Emerald Certificate as well as a Livestock Plaque. Carlee and ElainaLumley had previously received their Cloverbud Certificates at 4-H Achievement Night. Lizabeth Hart and Dana Woods also achieved the required points to be eligible for Gold Certificates. Points for projects competed led to the distribution of certificates plus the club as a whole had more than 300 cumulative hours for community service. Because projects were accomplished before they joined, newest members Isabel LeClair, Connor St, Pierre and Taylor Ormiston did not receive certificates but will share in awards next year. The club members also completed a craft using recycled materials. A magnetic message board was created from cookie sheets gathered from community members. Becky Gibson, Janet LaMere and Stella Tamblin spent four days and three nights on a tour of the Amish and Mennonite communities near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The weather was sunny and warm throughout the trip. They visited Kitchen Kettle Village, shopped at various Amish stores as well as a mall or two. Besides eating at nice restaurants the trio enjoyed a play at the Living Waters Theater called \Voices of Christmas\ on one evening and the \2008 Christmas Show\ at the American Music Theater the following night. On Sunday morning at the United Church the baptism of fifteen month old Emerson Michael McQuade took place with Pastor Taylor officiating. Young Emerson is the son of Michael and Jamie McQuade. The godparents are Kevin and Christine Besaw. Special recognition was given to Emerson and Joanne McQuade just after the baptism and a reception followed honoring Emerson Michael and his family as well as his grandparents, Emerson and Joanne. Candle lighter at United Church was Carlee Lumley. Jake Shippee broxight the basket back and shared his treasured stuffed dog that his \Gramma\ Yvonne Bulger had given him. Jake passed the basket to Tyler Bowman to bring back next week. Ruth Jenkins visited the home of Dave and Sandra Jenkins on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the birthday of great-granddaughter, Emily Jenkins. Nomination for Officers for 2009 was read. We still are in need of a secretary. Plans were made for a Christmas Party. We will have a Dinner on December 4, at the Gouverneur V.F.W., for reservations call me (Gert Wood) at 287-3333, or Elaine Lewis at 287-5053 before November 29. All paid up and life members are welcome. The next regular meeting will be, as usual, a covered dish luncheon, on December 9, at the Recreation Center. Rachel Brown will be there with her Puppets to entertain. Please bring a Donation of Can Goods to give to the local Food Bank. Are you looking to stay in shape during the winter months? You can walk at the Gouverneur High School Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; West Side Elementary Monday - Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and at East Side Elementary, Monday -Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. There's a pedro card party every Friday Night beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Edwards Nutrition Site. The pedro party in Gouvemeur's Cambray Courts will only be for two more Tuesday Nights. We will be back in the Spring.
