Foundation announces 30 scholarship winners with $41,950 awarded Continued from page 12 Ashley Reed Ashley Reed is attending SUNY Potsdam as a childhood education major. She would like to teach kindergarten or first grade. •Ashley is the Gouverneur Teachers' Association Scholarship winner. Rebecca Smith is a sophomore' at .New York University. She plans to major in international relations-and looks forward to spending her junior year abroad. During her freshman year, Rebecca earned a 3.96 GPA. • Outside of Class, she enjoys her job as an elementary school tutor and her scholarship is made possible by the family of John G. Reilly. James Smith is enjoying his junior year at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. During the 2007-2008 academic year he worked with the UAF Department of Residence Life, the UAF Leadership program and UAF Outdoor Adventures. A position as trip leader of the outdoor adventures led to James becoming a certified base managed climbing instructor with the Professional Climbing Instructors Association. and costume manager for other productions. Last summer, she attended the New York Conservatory for Film and Television and spent a week working at Shea Theater in Buffalo teaching drama and acting to children. Kelsey Tupper, daughter\ of Eric and Jennifer Tupper of Russell is a 2008 graduate of Edwards-Knox Central School. She has been accepted at the Rochester institute of Technology to pursue a degree in chemistry. While in high school, Kelsey was active in volleyball and basketball and served as a captain and MVP on the volleyball team. She was a member of the National Honor Society and served as president of the senior class. ' Kelsey's goal is to continue on to medical school after she graduates and become an anesthesiologist. Sarah Saucier • Sarah Saucier, daughter of Kenneth and Kathryn Saucier graduated from Gouverneur High School in 2003. She graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University in May of 2007 with a Bachelor's in Health Studies and is currently attending Utica College for her Doctorate Degree in May of 2009. Once her degree requirements are fulfilled, Sarah would like to utilize her physical therapy skills to help people in our North Country communities. Jonathan Tatro Jonathan Tatro is a first year physics major at Geneseo State and is an active member ofhis dorm's hall council. He is a member of the prestigious Physics Club and plans on getting his doctorate in medical physics. Jennifer Sidletsky has been selected as a recipient of a 2007 GIVES Founders Award in memory of John \W. Rouse, a prominent businessman and the founder of the Gouverneur Foundation, Inc. This summer, Jennifer continued to work through Clarkson's Honors program with Professor Richard Partch in the Center of Advanced Materials Processing. She is in her sophomore year as a physics and chemistry double major and plans to earn her doctorate in physics, continuing research in the field of nanotechnology. Rebecca Smith Kathryn Tubbs (Impression Studio .photo) Kathryn Tubbs is a third year student at Geneseo State University majoring in theatre, geography and environmental studies. She has consistently on the Dean's List and is amember of the Theatre Honors group as well as the Geography Honors group. Katie has appeared on stage in many productions at Geneseo the last being \Fool for Love\ in September. In addition to acting, she' has directed and been stage Marcus Tuttle Marcus Tuttle, son of Ronald arid Barbara Tuttle is in his junior year at St. Lawrence University where he is majoring in chemistry and mathematics., During his first two years of college, he was elected president of SLU Fencers, was a General Chemistry Peer Workshop Leader, was a mentor at the Quantitative Resource Center, participated in the Emerging Leaders Program and was a member of the University Choir. Marcus was recently inducted into Pi Mu Epsilon, the national leadership honorary society. She is \the daughter of Rick and Chris Vrooman and the granddaughter of Gary Weir of Gouverneur and Brenda Weir of New Jersey and Marlene and the late Ronald Vrooman of Gouverneur. Richelle attends SUNY Potsdam for childhood education with a specialization in math. Her enjoyment of' children and babysitting set, her mind on teaching and she is looking forward to having her own classroom. Her award was made possible by the Gouverneur Teachers' Association. Christine Warden Christine Warden, daughter of Ian and Sheila Warden is a 20O8 graduate of Gouverneur Central School. She is currently in her first semester at SUNY Geneseo majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-vet studies. Christine is a member of the Bio-club, Pre-Vet Club, Outing Club and Horse Rescue Society. She is the recipient of the Delbert E. and Rachel Wainwright DevendorfAward. In her junior year she traveled to New Zealand for six months and studied sociology.. Katherine has been on the Dean's List for every semester in addition to three President's List awards. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Clinical Forensic Psychology at Alliant International University in Fresno, California. Holly Weaver, daughter of Tim and Bonnie Weaver is a 2008 graduate of Gouverneur High School. She is currently attending Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts and plans to major in chemistry with a biology minor. In high school Holly was active in basketball, soccer and softball,'serving as a captain for two years. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, Jazz Band and Math Club. Holly is now a member of the ENC Women's Soccer team and is working towards becoming a research scientist. Brianne Wicks is now in her second year at SUNY Potsdam and the Crane School of Music where she was named to the President's List for the last academic year. At the Tri-M National Music Honor Society induction ceremony this spring, Brianne was awarded a Lifetime Membership. This summer she returned to work with the Gouverneur Wildcat Marching Band as the instructor of the color guard. Brianne hopes to work in the field of secondary music education and hopes also to keep up her interest in the Spanishjanguage. At Potsdam, she has returned to work in the Crane Admissions Office and began tutoring music and Spanish courses at the college., The Kraker Award made Brianne's scholarship possible. la tL*.
