Page 2 Gouverneur Tribune Press, Thursday June 12,2008 FBC band \Straightforward\ to play at Worshipfest A band representing Fowler Baptist Church will take their show on the road next weekend when they head to Lowville to be a part of a Christian music festival called the Truth & Way Worshipfest. \Straightforward will be on hand for the June 14 event, which will be held at Maple Ridge Center, East Road, Lowville. The fest is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ministry through music, will be geared teens, with at least five bands taking part. There will also be activities for all ages, including clown ministry, local chalk artist, Rachel Browning and plenty of food. Admission is free. There will be a $1 fee for parking. Spectators are asked to bring chairs or a blanket. For more information call 287-4083. Gouverneur hosts the regional\ Books\ The third regional Battle of the Books was held at the Gouverneur Methodist Church on Saturday, May 30. Teams from ten area libraries in St. Lawrence, Lewis and Jefferson counties participated in this highly competitive event. Throughout the year students in grades 4-6 have been reading books from a list they received at the beginning of the school year. These teams of four were the overall champions at then - local libraries and met here in Gouverneur to test their knowledge of the books they had read against students from communities as far away as Massena and Dexter. The winning team this year was composed of Nathan Gingrich, Shiwan Kim and Ben Miller from Potsdam. They defeated two-time champions Massena in a very close match. The team from Carthage placed third. The team from Gouverneur: Nicole Gotham, Sarah Gcer, Sarah Stannard and Joie Hays played two good matches but were unable to advance, Mrs. Garofalo is very grateful to these girls for representing Gouverneur. They were originally the local second place team but filled-in when the team that finished first was unable to attend the event. Gouverneur's first place team was Olivia Spellicy, Grace Leader, Joy Leader and Julie Peck Gouverneur's second place team was Nicole Gotham, Sarah Geer, Sarah Stannard and Troy Gates.
