HMM «-<-> r !t ~— nm lt <__» I**\' .-Mill\* Joseph Danny Weldon Desormeaux In lieu of calling hours, an open memorial reception for family and friends to celebrate, the life of Joseph Danny Weldon, 22, of Dubois, Wyoming, and formerly of Gouverneur, will be held on Sunday, May 25,2008, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Mullin's Restaurant, located on Route 11, south, Gouverneur. Mr. Weldon died on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming, from injuries sustained as a passenger in an automobile accident on Saturday, May 17. Born on June 23, 1985, in Gouverneur, son of Danny and Gina Weldon and was the grandson of Doug and Alice Weldon, Gouverneur and the late Marco and Doris Carbone. He graduated from Gouverneur CentralSchool in 20O3, where he enjoyed participating on the wrestling team. After high school he traveled before settling in Dubois, Wyoming. Joseph worked for Nabor's Drilling Company in the North Mesa oil field. He was also an accomplished hunting guide, licensed by the state of Wyoming, where he spent each autumn season with Fritz Meyer, guiding big game hunts in the Wind River and Absaroka Mountain Range, located near Dubois, Wyoming. ANTWERP - The committal service for Alice Desormeaux, Antwerp, will be Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 1 p.m., at St. MichaePs'Cemetery, Antwerp, with Rev. Floyd Bleaux, from St. James Church, Gouverneur, officiating. Mrs. Desormeaux died February 13,2008. Mr. Weldon loved to read and was especially fond of Robert Frost and Henry David Thoreau. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking and all other outdoor activities. He is survived by his companion Katie Lewis, Dubois, Wyoming; a brother, Jacob \Weldon Gouverneur; three sisters, Erin (Jacob) Khowlton, of Watertown, Emma (Nathan) Slate and Clara Weldon, both of Gouverneur; and two nieces, Victoria and Virginia Knowlton. In addition, he is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Donations may be made to the Joseph Weldon Memorial Fund at Community Bank in Gouverneur. Lida L. Perrin RICHVILLE - Funeral services for Lida L. Perrin 57, Ogdensburg, and formerly of Richville, were held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Cathedral, Ogdensburg, with Rev. Terry R. LaValley, the celebrant. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville, following the Mass. Ms. Perrin died Friday, May 16, 2008, at her home where she was under the care of her loving family and Hospice after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 21, 1950, in Gouverneur, the daughter of Roswell and Beatrice (Burr) Perrin. After her father's death in 1964 and her mother's death in 1967, she was raised and resided with the McQuade family in Richville. In 1969 she graduated from Gouverneur High School and continued her education at Nazareth College in Rochester for her Bachelor's Degree, and Syracuse University for her Master's Degree in Social Work. Ms. Perrin was employed at the St. Lawrence NYSARC Ogdensburg Seaway Industries for over 30 years as a Senior Rehabilitation Counselor. She made a difference in so many employee lives and loved them all as if they were her own. She enjoyed spending time with her family, holidays - especially Christmas when she baked her specialty snowmen, spending time at the McQuade camp on the Oswegatchie River, reading, working on her computer, shopping and knitting. She was the family historian, and enjoyed organizing the family gatherings. Ms. Perrin is survived by her sisters Joanne McQuade and her husband Emerson of Richville, Nancy Fuller and her husband Robert of Gouverneur; brothers Richard Perrin & his wife Joan of Antwerp, Peter Perrin and his wife Nancy of Scotland, Walter Perrin and his wife Rosemary of New Hampshire and Robert Perrin address unknown; a longtime friend Henrietta Hall of Ogdensburg and several nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Annett and Erie Phelps and two infant siblings, Sally and Robert. Blackmer A graveside memorial service for Norma K. (Narrow) Blackmer, 60, of Ranson, West Virginia, a Gouverneur native, will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville, on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Blackmer died December 29, 2007 after a battle with cancer. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Born on January 26, 1947, in Gouverneur, daughter of the late William and Harriet (Horton) Narrow. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1965. She was married to Frederick Blackmer on February 14, 1986, in Syracuse, by the Justice of Peace. A previous marriage ended in divorce. Mrs. Blackmer was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing crafts, working on crossword puzzles, bowling and fishing. Mrs. Blackmer ' is survived by her husband of 23 years, Fred Blackmer, of Ranson, WV; three daughters and their husbands Heather A. and Denis Caron of Apulia Station, Sara J. and James Lord of Whitney Point, and Michelle L. and Joshua De Lorenzo of Oswego; two sisters and a brother-in-law Nancy J. and Thomas Barrett of Las Vegas, NV and Nona M. White of Ogdensburg; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother Roger W. Narrow. It was Norma's wish for memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, West Virginia 25401. Wilder ANTWERP - A memorial service for Elsie Wilder, 98, of Antwerp, will be Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Antwerp First Congregational Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Antwerp. Mrs. Wilder died November 9,2007. Arrangements were with Green Funeral ' Home, Gouverneur. June Baginski Spring burial for June Baginski, Gouverneur, will be on Saturday, May 24,2008, at 1 p.m., in the Elmwood Cemetery, Fort Covington. Mrs. Baginski died January 10,2008. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Hermon News by Bernice Aldrich Bettye Green received a phone call from Peter Manning who has many friends in this area. He usually makes a trip from his home in New York City each year for a visit. He called from a hospital in Manhattan as he is ill and was wondering about the people in the area. Last Wednesday, May 14 at their regular meeting the DeKalb-Hermon Senior Citizens had a special cake and wished Doris Bell, who is a resident at the DeKalb Sunrise Senior Complex, best wishes on her move to her daughter's home in Ransomville. Barbara McBumey from the Office of the Aging and Nancy Robert, Transportation Coordinator were in attendance. Doris has been very active for years in the quest for mass transit for senior citizens. Doris is well liked and will be missed. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 28 at the DeKalb Senior Citizen Complex at noon for lunch with meeting following at 12:30. Friday, May 16 the DeKalb-Hermon Senior Citizens enjoyed a trip to Ottawa to see the tulips and go on a boat cruise. They had a great time and the weather was beautiful. Toni Lewis and Bernie Aldrich attended an AARP Board Meeting in Canton on Tuesday, May 6. The ecumenical knitting and crocheting prayer shawl group will meet at the. Hermon United Methodist Church, Saturday May 31 from 10-2. Bring a sandwich; and dessert and beverages will be supplied. If you don't knit or crochet, come for the fellowship. Veronica Newvine, Hermon Hepburn Library Technician, recently completed a \Reference Sources and Services Certification Course\ consisting of four workshops at NCLS Service Center in Watertown. She received her certificate and said she learned a lot. The Memorial Day Parade will line up at 10am at the Hermon Post Office and start at 10:30am. They will march to the Hermon Cemetery for a service. Anyone wishing to join them call Carol at 347-2487.
