The Edwards-Knox Lady Cougars won their first nine Northern Athletic Conference (NAC) West Division games this season. Their hope to run the table was denied Tuesday as the Lady Red Devils of Hammond slipped past E-K 6-4. For the Gouverneur Wildcat baseball team, a season that was quickly slipping away, got a boost as the Wildcats played their best game of the year on Thursday and easily defeated the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks 9-0. Here's a rundown of games involving Gouverneur area teams from last week: MON.MAY12 BASEBALL Heuvelton 12 Hammond 3 Winning pitcher Josh Dittmer allowed only four hits and struck out 10, as the Bulldogs kept their perfect season alive. Five Heuvelton batters collected two hits each and the Hammond defense helped by committing eight errors. Chris Clemons rapped two hits for the Red Devils. Harrisville 1 Hermon-DeKalb 0 Coal Campbell singled in the third inning, stole second base and scored the only run of the game on Carson Patnode's base hit. Tom Coloney made the single run stand up as he tossed a one-hitter to earn the win on the' mound. Edwards-Knox 9 Clifton-Fine 5 Josh Kirkpatrick singled and doubled to pace an 11-hit Cougar attack. Dan Donovan and Gordon Whitney stroked two hits each for the Eagles. SOFTBALL Malone 15 Gouverneur 2 Winning pitcher Erica Johnson allowed only three hits and struck out seven as the Lady Huskies remained unbeaten in the Central Division. Lacy Redmond had two hits for the Ladycats. Edwards-Knox 15 Clifton-Fine 11 The winless Lady Eagles gave the first place Lady Cougars all they wanted during this contest at Star Lake. E-K took the lead 10-4 with a seven-ran fourth inning, but Clifton-Fine scored five in the fifth to cut the advantage to 11-10. The Lady Cougars tacked on three insurance.runs in the sixth. Emily Fuller drilled three hits to lead the Edwards- Knox offense. Miranda Typhair, Vanessa Bullock and Kristyn Tebo added two hits each. Olivia Langevin, Jordan Sullivan, Beth Meek and Ashley White had two hits each for the Lady Eagles. Harrisville 8 Hermon- DeKalb 4 Tied at 2-2, the Lady Pirates erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the victory. Jeri Baker's two- run homerun was the key hit in the big inning. Katie French singled, tripled and drove in two runs. Whitney Stiles led the Lady Green Demons with a pair of hits. Heuvelton 13 Hammond 2 The Lady Bulldogs broke the game open when they rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Winning pitcher Casey Connelly struck out 14 and drove in three runs. Heather Johnson and Sam Weaver collected three hits each. Nicole Davidson had a pair of hits to lead Hammond. TUE.MAY13 BASEBALL Ogdensburg 16 Gouverneur 2 The Blue Devils raced to a 10-0 lead after three innings, and went on to crush the Cats at Mills Park. Mike Luckie drilled a three-run homerun to lead the 13-hit OFA attack. Duane Roberts delivered three hits to lead the Cats offense. Ben Rockwood, Justin Jackson and Jordan Closs added two hits each. SOFTBALL Ogdensburg 14 Gouverneur 2 The- Ladycats were also soundly defeated by Ogdensburg. The Lady Devils put the game away with a eight- run sixth inning. Winning pitcher Katie Nelson allowed only four hits and struck out 16 Lady cat hitters. Nelson helped her own cause by belting a three-run homerun. Jenna Weaver had two of the Ladycats' hits. Hammond 6 Edwards-Knox 4 The Lady Red Devils handed the Lady Cougars their first West Division loss of the year after nine straight victories. Hammond built a 5-0 lead after three innings and held on for the win. Jessica Measheaw earned the complete game pitching win. Brittany Kenyon delivered a homerun for Hammond. Emily Fuller tripled and singled to lead Edwards- Knox. GOLF Gouverneur 239 Canton 248 Gouverneur 239 Ogdensburg 239 The Wildcat golf team earned a win and a tie in a tri- team match at Deerfield Country Club. Gouverneur's Nick Sterling had the lowest round of the match with a 38. Jeremy Phelps shot a 46. Jake McPhearson, with a 40, led Ogdensburg. Spencer Mallette shot a 41 for Canton. WED. MAY 14 BASEBALL Heuvelton 11 Hermon- DeKalb 4 Trailing 2-0, the unbeaten Bulldogs erupted for seven rans in the fiurth inning, and cruised to their 11\' win in a row. T.J. Jacobs collected three hits to lead Heuvelton. Jeremy Warren belted a homerun for the Green Demons. Lisbon 7 Clifton-Fine 4 (8) Nate Wheeler smashed a three-run homerun in the eighth inning to give the Golden Knights the dramatic victory. Josh Lassail drilled four hits, including a pair of doubles for Lisbon. Gordon Whitney and Andrew Gearsbeck paced the Eagles with two hits each. Edwards-Knox 4 Harrisville 0 Sean Sullivan tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 13 to lead the Cougars to the win. Brandon Bressette supplied the key Cougar hit, a two-run single in the first inning. Coal Campbell had two of the three Pirate base hits. Hammond 14 Morristown 11 The Red Devils built a 9-0 lead after only two innings, but Morristown battled back with five runs in the third inning and four more in the sixth. Chris Thiverge belted a homerun for Hammond. Brandon Howie, who struck out 11 in earning the win on the mound, also went 3-4 at the plate. Marshall Brown had three hits, including a triple, to lead the Green Rockets, SOFTBALL Heuvelton 2 Hermon-DeKalb 0 The Lady Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh inning when Megan Johnson scored on a sacrifice bunt. Kara Leonard drove in a second run with a base hit. Heather Johnson was outstanding in earning the pitching victory for Heuvelton as she allowed only one hit, a Jess Austin single, and struck out 15 Lady Green Demon batters. Lisbon 15 Clifton-Fine 5 With the game tied 2-2, the Lady Knights broke it open with four runs in the 'fourth inning and eight more in the fifth. Marcy Adams collected three hits for Lisbon. Tory Lemke had two more, including a triple. Olivia Langevin paced the Lady Eagle offense with a single and a double. Edwards-Knox 11 Harrisville 3 Miranda Typhair struck out seven and earned the victory. She also paced the offense with a homerun and three runs batted in. Raven Reese added two RBI's for the Lady Cougars. Katelyn delivered a run-scoring hit for Harrisville. Hammond 16 Morristown 2 The Lady Red Devils, kept pace with Lisbon for second place in the West, by scoring nine times in the opening inning. Brittany Kenyon delivered for hits for the Lady Red Devils. Winning pitcher Jessica Measheaw, added three base hits. As a team, Hammond smacked 17 base hits. Meghan Kanaly paced the Lady Green Rockets with a pair of hits. BOYSTRACK Norwood-Norfolk 134'/* Gouverneur 107'/2 Jon Eng, with victories in the 1,600 and 3,200, and a slot on the winning 3,200 relay team, paced the Flyers to the win, handing the Cats their first loss of the season. Earning wins for the Wildcats were Brandon Storieinthe 100, Kevin Koerick in the shot put and Charlie Saidel in the triple jump. TMJR.MAY15 BASEBALL Gouverneur 9 Tupper Lake 0 Duane Roberts earned the shutout win on the mound for the Cats. Roberts allowed six hits and helped his own cause with three hits and scored twice for the Cats. Clifton-Fine 10 Hammond 4 The Eagles broke a 4-4 tie by scoring four times in the sixth inning and added two more in the seventh. Andrew Gearsbeck was perfect at the plate, collecting five hits to lead the Eagles. Gordon Whitney added three hits, including a triple. Ian Mann and Brandon Howie collected two hits each to lead Hammond. SOFTBALL Hammond 16 Clifton-Fine 1 The Lady Red Devils scored in every inning as they trounced the Lady Eagles. Danielle Green belted a homerun to lead Hammond offensively. Jessica Measheaw held Clifton-Fine to three hits and struck out 12. Gouverneur 10 Tupper Lake 7 Trailing 7-6, the Ladycats rallied for four runs in the sixth to down the Lady Jacks. Jenna Wea-ver paced the Gouverneur offense with four hits and two runstatted in. Danni Easton delivered three hits, including a double. FRI.MAY16 BASEBALL Edwards-Knox 8 Lisbon 5 Edwards-Knox 1 Lisbon 0 Frank Mackin delivered a key triple in the first game, and tossed a one-hitter in the second to lead the Cougars to a doubleheader sweep of the Golden Knights., Heuvelton 4 Harrisville 0 The Bulldogs clinched the West with the victory over the Pirates. Heuvelton scored all the runs they needed in the opening frame when they rallied for three. Winning pitcher Brookin Decker alloed only four, hits and struck out 13. Tom Coloney had a pair of hits for, the Pirates,.. „ ,„ VWi , an Hermon-DeKalb 20 Morristown 3 The Green Demons belted five homeruns in their blowout win over the Green Rockets. Tyler Amo paced the power- surge with two dingers, ©ustin Fenlong, Adam Burnham and Jeremy Warren also went deep for the Green Demons. Marshall Brown smacked a homerun for winless Morristown. SOFTBALL Heuvelton 13 Harrisville3 Casey Donnelly allowed only two hits and struck©nt 11 to lead the Lady Bulldogs to the win. Heather Johnson and Megan Johnson both collected a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Heuvelton scored their runs in bunches with seven in the third and six more in the sixth. Nicole Lesperanee and Nichole French had run- producing singles in the second inning for the Lady Pirates. Edwards-Knox 15 Lisbon 0 Miranda Typhair allowed only one hit and struck out 11 to lead the Lady Cougars. Typhair also led the offense with three hits, including a homerun, and drove in three runs. Brianna Teele's second inning double was the only hit of the game for Lisbon. Hermon-DeKalb 10 Morristown 5 Natasha Sayer ripp ed three triples and drove home three runs , to lead the Lady Green Demons to the win. Marissa Bacon and Courtney Brabaw added two hits each. Katie Porter drilled a homerun for Morristown. The Lady Green Rockets scored all five of their runs in the sixth inning. Malone 20 Gouverneur 2 The Lady Huskies remained undefeated (14-0) as they belted the Ladycats at Riverview Park. Malone scored five in the first, seven in the fourth and four more in the seventh. Erica Johnson and Ashley Marshall delivered three hits each to lead Malone. Danni Easton had a single and a double to lead the Ladycats. Players of all shapes and sizes, and dressed in their colorful uniforms, have been busy getting the Little League season started this week at Riverview Park. The little ladies on this girl's softball team all appear to be at the ready during a game on Monday. Youth baseball and softball can be even more exciting than the big leagues. Large crowds are always on hand for the games, but more fans are certainly welcome.
