J Thea House setting. for spiritual retreat * A one-day spiritual retreat program for women entitled \Birthing the Sacred Child/' will be held at Thea House Re- ireat and Conference Center in rural Gouverneur on Saturday, Dec. 1. The program will be led by Lindy Sanford, a counselor who used spiritual counseling and ritual as a therapist helping adult children of alcoholicsand survivors of abuse. \In studying birthing cus- toms and rituals throughout the world she plained, 'Tve come to see them as symbolizing the inner spiritual journeys we are often called to make. They still mark ntes of passages in our lives, such as moving from an experience of death, failure or loss to a rebirth in our life. \Winter She pointed out, \is a natural time to go inside to find the inner child, what wants to be born in us, what creative possibilities are seek- ing to come forth. The Christ- mas Advent season highlights the coming of the Christ cr^ild, and this is more than a mere historical event. The Divine Child yearns to be born over and over again in many places if we can hear the voice of the Spirit.\ The program will include a presentation on various birth- ing rituals throughout-the world, joumaling, and sirnple activities to express inner and ou ter connec tions of these great mysteries. t Costof the program is$20. Financial assistance is avail- able for those in need. The program will start at 9:30 a.m. And conclude at 4 p.m. and includes lunch. Ms. Sanford is a gradual of Burlington College, and holds degrees in both religious studies and psychology. . For more information^caU 28 7-0012.
