That's what Auctioneer Bernie Brzostek was telling a small group of onlookers Saturday morning as his Phoenix, N.Y.-based company began the auction of nine Gouverneur properties, which were originally part of the Shannon family holdings here. At the end of three hours of somewhat curious bidding- which began with two groups of investors bidding on \per apartment unit\ prices for the 37-unit package and finished with final bidding per property- the lions share of the real estate package went to two New York City investors- Harry Queen and Steven Morris. The total package went for $450,450- which included ten percent buyers' premiums. The properties purchased by Mr. Queen and Mr. Morris and the respective prices were: 178 E. Main SL (8 apartment units), $64,000; 188 E. Main (7 apartment units), $56,000; 200 E. Main (3-family), $39,000; 31 Sterling St. (4 units), $54,000: 35 Sterling (2 family), $27,600; 37 Sterling (2 New channel: CBOT Ottawa Paul Blanchard, manager of the Gouverneur NewChannels system, announced last week that CBOT, Ottawa's leading broadcast television station, will replace CKWS Television (Kingston) on local cable channel 4. The switch was made Monday. \We were expecting to make this channel switch in May but the equipment we needed never arrived/' Mr. Blanchard said. \Now that we have received it, we have moved ahead to put this excellent service on our cable line-up.\ Both CBOT and CKWS are Canadian Broadcast- ing Corporation (CBQ affiliates, so about 90 percent of their programming is the same. Contained in the ten percent balance, which is not the same, should be some interesting viewing options which arc new to local viewers, the manager said. Since CBOT originates from Canada's capitol, some of the viewing reflects the special news and happenings in that vibrant and multi-cultural city, he noted. A local investor group, headed by Domenic Pistolesi, successfully bid on two of the nine properties- a four unit apartment building at 174 E. Main Street ($69,300) and a storage building and lot behind it on Beckwith Street for S14 ^00. Added to those prices would be the 10 percent fee paid to the auctioneer. The Clayton area couple who owned the properties, Paul and Helen Brant, were on hand Saturday to watch the proceedings. Explaining the reason for the sale, they noted that as out-of-town landlords it had been difficult to keep a careful eye on their investment and the repairs which needed to be done. Also in attendance Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Shannon who sold the parcels to the Brants four years ago. MR. AND MRS. A discussion was held on the HeuveUon Pride Program, which is to be held Nov. 13 at the Heuvelton central School auditorium. This is a special program to honor the 14 young men and women who are serv- ing in Saudi Arabia who gradu- ated form Heuvelton central School, as well as their fami- lies. This program is free of charge and will start at 7 p.m. This isn't just for Heuvelton people, it is to include the sur- rounding areas such as De- Peyster, etc. Several organi- zations have donated money, cookies, etc. to help defray the expenses not only of the pro- gram but they are sending each of the 14 a box of all kinds o( goodies for Christmas. There were a few years where there weren't through young people in DePeyster to have a Methodist Youth Fel- lowship, so it lsgood to see the MYF being a art of the church. Keitha Stone was guest speaker about a boat trip that she went on this summer. We were sorry to hear of the passing aw ay of John Allen on Tuesday, Oct. 30. John was married to Jennie Todd for 10 years and lived at Jennie f s home on Mud Lake until he broke his hip and had to go to a nursing home to live. Jennie passed away last May. Helen Levac had surgery at the House of the Good Sa- maritan Hospital in Watertown on Thursday, Nov. 1. Helen is improving and should be home by this weekend.
