George W ashington West, superin tendent of the motive power depart ment Of the Ontario and W estern Railroad, on-- Thursday evening of kidney troub laat the age of 61 years. Mr. W est Was born on April 3, 1847, in Troy, and -was educated in the pub lic schools of that place. He entered the railroad service in 1865 with the New York Central at Schenectady. In 1873 he became master mechahic of the Chenango Valley Railroad, where he remained until 1883. From 1884 to 1886 he was master mechanic of ‘the W est Shore and from 1886 to 18*90 master mechanic of J h e Erie Railroad. In 1890 he became sQlierintendent of m otive power pn the Ontario and Western, wliich posi tion he held at the tim e pf h|s dpfith. He was president pf the I^'otivp Cqr Builders Association pf the United States and wap a t pne time president of the Rfiilrpad Club pf NpW City. H is w ife died gever'al years ago.
