Terosa A.ciams, a comely widow of 45, -whikept a hoarding house at 477 West 23d street, New York city, was in duced to marry a boarder, mme Richard Carter last December, It turned out that Carter had liis Sunday manners on until after the marriage, and he then began to show his true character. He came home drunk, abused bis wife and the boarders. Finding her enlreuticB of no avail, hi.- wife drove him from the bouse and le- nounced his name. Thursday afternoon she received a note from him requesting her to meet him out side as he bad something important to tell her. She met him on Sixth avenue anti 23d street. She refused to have anything to do with him unless he quit drinking. Carter became exasperated at h r refusal, and drawing a revolver, shot her twice, then pointed the revolver at his own head and drove three bullets into his own brain. He died shortly afterwards. Mrs. Adams may recover. She has four daughters, who work at fancy dress making and the whole family are highly spoken of, while Carter is denounced by every one. A WORKING CLUB IN MONTGOMERY. The Pall Mall Gazette, which, since its editor’s political journey through the con tinent has become an authority on foreign affairs, declares that the Empress Augusta is virtually under arrest; that the Palace of Friedrichskron, where she remains, is all but in name a prison, and that such has been the position of a Princess Royal of England ever since the death of the Emperor Frederick left her exposed to the tender mercies of her enemies. A Statosman Downs a Soldier in a Duel. There was an exciting time in the Freucli Chamber of Depulios yesterday over the' debate of a resol iition offered by General Boulanger. The resolution was streunously opposed by M, Floquet. In defending his resolution General Boulanger was wrought to a high pitch of excitement and in his reply five times stigmatized M. Floquet as an impudent liar, each time raising a storm of imprecations. He was repeatedly called to order and the members became indig nant. From all the benches came cries of rage, and insulting epithets were hurled him. Finally a vote of Censure of the general was moved and seconded amid an uproar of approval. Before a vote could be taken on it the general tendered his resignation to the president and quit the chamber in a rage. The members fol lowed him with daiisive cheers and laugh ter and howled at him from the steps of the palace. As a result of the bitter and violent per sonalities in the Chamber of Deputies a duel was arranged between General Boul anger and Premier Floquet. The contest ants met at Count Dillon’s estate Neuilly-sur-Seine, at 10 o’clock Friday morning. In the encounter B-oulanger received a severe wound in the neck and Premier Floquet was slightly wounded in the hand, chest and foot. But little time was lost in the prelimi naries, and after the men had taken their positions the duel commenced. Both con testants were intensely excited. General Boulanger forced the fighting and made several passes at his adversary, but did not strike him. Premier Floquet, who was pale and trembling, parried the thrusts of his adversary, but did not exhibit the skill of an expert swordsman. In the second encounter General Bou langer made a desperate pass at M. Flo quet, who thrust out his sword aud held that of his adversary off. After a short rest the men renewed the fighting, and Boulanger made a vicious thrust at Flo quet, who warded it df. Instantly he made a lunge with Ms sword and plunged it deep in Boulanger’s neck. The general staggered, threw his hands about the wound and fell into the arms of his sec onds. A physician who was present ban daged Ms wound, immediately after which the general was placed in a carriage and driven from the field. Boulanger’s wound shows dangerous symptoms. Inflammation has set in, and the breathing of the patient is affected. The duel has resulted in alienating nearly all of Boulanger’s friends. La Lant&rne, which has heretofore vigo ously supported Mm, announces in i issue to-day that it had severed all coi nection with Boulangerism. ats, in a recei “ Better ■8 too late.” He who mature before mow- ^ , most concentrated part of the plant and takes the husk.
