Late Wednesday afternoon a serious accident occurred in a quarry of the New York Cement C’ompany at Rick Ltx;k, to E u ro|M ‘. George Allen, a livery stable owner of Brooklyn, was as much astonished as he was difgusttd yesterday to learn that Ulster county. A workman named judgment had been entered against him Michael Green was engaged in tamping a | by order of Recorder 8 myth as one of the hole with a sUck.whenthe cartridge which bondsmen of Latimer E. Jones, the fugi- waa in the hole exploded. The end of the j tive financier who is believed to have stick entered Green’s left cheek and W£s Ikipped his bail. forced up to the eye, injuring the opfc 1 “ I t will make a b’g hole in my prop- badly. erty if I am compelled to pay ® 10,000,’ The comer of the right eye was frai- said Mr. Allen yesterday. “ I was in- tured in two- places. Three of Green's fingers on the left hand were Injured eo badly that they had to be amputated-. The index finger and thumb were lacerated and the wrist was broken. Dr. G, ('. Smith ot Rondout, and Dr. J. Bogardes of Rosendale, attended the injar..d man, who, it is believed, will live .—Kingston Freeman. D I E D OF OVER DOSE OF NARCOTICS. The coroner’s jury in the case of Mary, wife of John P. Hedenger, who died veiy suddenly in this place, yesterday neon at the residence of her mother, Mrs. Mar garet Sharp on Jersey aYenue, rendered aa verdict that she came to her death from a excessive dose of laudanum, taken by mis take. The woman was the first wife of Case Marshall. Her present husband is a sailor living at Fort Wadsworth, Sta’en Island. She had been on a visit to her mother’s a few d lys, and Thursday was taken with violent pains and she dose-1 and drugged herself terri '-ly with the re sult stated. D o n ’t G e t C a u g l u this spring with your blood full oi im purities, your digestion impaired, ycur appeti e poor, kidneys and liver torpid, and whole system liable to be prostrated by disease—but get yourself into go d condition, and ready for the cbangiiig and warmer weather, by taking Hood’s Sarsaparilla. It stands unequalled for purifying the blood, giving an appetite, and for a general spring medicine. duced to go on Jone^’ bond by hi^ father. I cannot believe that he has skipped. I know he had left the state to avoid further troubles, and I last heard of him buying lumbtr down in Tennessee. I think he will come back.” Other people are not so sarguine as Mr. Allen. They say that Jones is in Europe, wi h about a quarter of a million of the boodle, and that he means to stay there. T H E D A M E E X P E O D E .S . Theheuse occupied by Fred Prindle, which was situated about two miles from Peakville, Delaware county, up the creek, caught fire last week from the explosion of a lamp and it and all Mr. Prindle’s household goods and $128 in money were burned, the flames having spread so rapidly that the family had barely time to escape. There was no insurance but neighbors have subscribed enough to make good the loss and have assisted in erecting another house for which he had the lumber out. N E W E R THAN CHESTNFT.S OR RATS. A well-known Port Jervis gentleman, in entertaining a friend a few days ago, surprised himself and his guest by getting a little in his cups, during which he said and did many things that were humorous, to say the least. At some sally of his friend, be attempted to express his views »n the subject with the exclamation, •chestnuts” or “ rats,” but instead of either of these terms set the risibilities in convulsive action by exclaiming, “ Ab ; rabbits.” This little Itpsus lingua the gentleman tried to correct, but it was too good to be lost to tholi erature of the day, and no emendations or addenda were per mitted, nor indeed were they deemed necessary. EECTDBE ON R E S P IR A T IO N . Dr. Dlman gave another one of his series of lectures, before the pupils of the Vlatamoras school, on Friday afternoon. The subject he took u p w \ S “ Respiration.” The class in physiology derives great benefit from these lectures. The Dr. ex plains each subject very carefully. The mxt one will be on the digestive organs. S o m e T h i n g s R e a m e d h y E x p e r i e n c e .
