NEWS BOILED DOWN. Traffic on the Southern and Western Railroad in Ireland was discontinued in consequence of the labor strikes Wednesday. Russian officials admit the loss in Shipka Pass September 17th, of thirty-one officers and 1,000 men. A correspondent engaged in the relief work .nniong the Bulgarians says ; At]Cardova where the population has been 20,000, not a grown iii.-in is left, and the place is at the mercy of the Turkish irregulars, who plunder and outrage at will. Five or six thousand women an^ children only are left, and these are utterly destitute and living on roots. Senator Morton was better Saturday morning than he has been any time since his illness, and he feels much encoura'ged. The funeral of Senator Bogy occurred at St. Louis Saturday. The Treasury had upon the Union Pacific train recently attacked by robbers i n Wyoming, 30,000 ounces of silver bullion in large bars so heavy that the robbers were unable to carry it with them. Not an ounce was lost. This bullion was purchased i n Nevada, and was des- tined for Philadelphia. Gen. Sturgess reports the Indian loss in a re- cent fight at twenty dead and sixty wounded. His loss, four killed and fifteen wounded. Sturgess* command has been living four days on mule meat. One Capt. Julius D. Rhodes is announced to dive \headforemost\ from the centre of the new Suspension Bridge, Niagara Falls, a distance of I 94 feet, being 55 feet higher than ever before made by him. This leap will take place to- morrow at three o'clock p. m. The Captain, with much assurance, announces that this will be the \greatest feat performed by any man and live.\ At a mass meeting of the unemployed work- ingmen at Union Hall, San Francisco, on the 22nd, and earnest speeches were made The speakers bitterly inveighed against the Chinese, and proposed to the workingmen to organize and put themselves in position to enforce their demands.
