ELMIRA DAILY BAZOO. VOL. 1 ELMIRA, N. Y., JULY 12,1877. ' /NO, 10 -Li. MOODY IN KLMIKA, Last evening at 6:30 D. L. Moody arrived in Elmira on his Avay home from Rome, Pa., to his home in Massachusetts. He was welcomed to the city by Dr. Hart and J. C. Ingham of the Y. M. C. A., and a representative ot the BAZOO. He was a guest of his brother, W. C. Moody No. 42 1 Pleasant St. After tea and a tew moments for rest he attended the South Main St., Prayer Meeting. His remarks were based on Matt. VII, 7. He said there was three kinds of Christians—the asking, the seeking and the knocking, and each kind he illustrated in the most beautiful manner. Notice was given that Mr. Moody would lead the Y. M. C. A . morning prayer meeting. The Opera Hou.se having been kindly given for the purpose, at the appointed hour, 8 :30, hardly a seat could be bad, and before the closing of the meeting fully 2,000 people had been in the hall. Dr. (,)ueal called the meeting to order and an nounced the opening hymn. Dr. Knox made the opening prayer. Mrs. Fowler Gibson pre- siiled at the piano; Charlie Palmer was there with his claronet; Mr. Hamer led the singing. Mr. Moody based his remarks on Luke v, 12, jjcing an exposition of the parable of the man cleansed of the lenrosy. His remarks were full of pathos and interest. NEWS BOILED DOWN. — The Russian government has purchased 8 ,000 bales of cotton in New York within a week, and probably three timess that amount since the commencement of the war. —The President of the Georgia Constitution- al Convention, cautioned the members not to in • fringe on the rights of the negro. —The New York Open Board of Brokers dissolved yesterday. —Frank Wilson, a negro, was hung in Har- rjsburg yesterday for the murder of John Rudy. —The Iowa Greenback Convention met yes- terday at Des Mes Moine.s about 100 delegates were present. —The directors of the Upper Canada Bible Society have decided to send $z^oo worth of Bibles to St. John.
