Jt* seasons have been uncommonly propitious and its harvests are realized. Unusual health has blessed our state, and the teeming earth has yielded |ts abundance to supply oqr necessities, mid minister fo our cnmfqrts, The wave of passion, which, during the past year, rollcu C”*lf 3t»ue of our counties, has subsided, and Internal peace Is restored to our citizens, and tran quility lo our fire sides. The most sublime spectacle connected with civil government is now exhibiting before us. The rep resentatives of the vuyerpignty of our people, assem bled lo take in pieces »nd re-construct the frame work of the state government, have discharged the high trust., and returned to their constituents, and to their private duties, without having excited passion, alarm, or apprehenrirfft, in the community and our- freemen are examining tbeir labors, and preparing to pass a verdict of approbation or rejection upon this wp.rk, with a vigilance inspired by a pervading patri otism, and with a calmness and confidence, which free institutions can alone impart. Not an individu al in l ’ue state apprehends an encroachment upon his j u s t rights, or an abridgement of his civil or religious privileges, from this peaceful and voluntary revolu- tuion of his government. Stronger evidences of high intelligence arid sound morality in a people, cannot, be afforded. These, and innumerable other temporal blessings of a kindred character, constantly flowing upon our Stale and ita citizens, call for continued thankfulness to the Bountiful Givtr of everv Ulcssina. The gift of a Saviour, and.lhe full light of Divine Re vclation, are spiritual blessings, which should a- wakeii tp expressions of devout thankfulness the hearts and the voices of a Christian people. I respectfully recommend Thursday, the twenty sixth day of November next, to be -observed as a day ptjblip thanksgiving ; that the people of the State, abstaining from their ordinary business avocations, fnay assemble at their usual places of religious wor. ship, and, uniting wirh each other, and with their fellow.citizens of many of the other .States, may pay their tribute of thanks to the Author of these and all temporal anfl spiritual good gifts ; and may pour out their hearts to Him, that iiis rich smiles may be con tinued u,,r country, and lbal the signal blessings <»f this year may be crowned by the termination of #iur existing wars in an honorable and just peace. Preservation of Hj?ai.tii.—It has been remarked, ittid most truly, that the three ordinary secrets of H ealth are early rising', exercise, and personal clean’iness. To those the use ot Brandrelh’s Vegetable Universal Pills, would prove ot great value in the preservation of that invaluable it’essi n g-*-heajth. On a person in a fair stale of health, wlioj.s oniy costi ve or slightly bilious, they will be scarce iy felt j on the .contrary, if the .complaint be chron ic, and the constitution beiftneh deranged, tbe eff ect generally at first is most powerful, until the sys- freed lrom. some of its most vitiated and Hu,rgid humors.
