JOB WOKK THE ENTERPRISE PRINTERY eOOK WORK slim e from F landers' quagm ire th a t they look like m o v ing m o u n tains are spreading terro r among the Germ ans. The gigantic mud tu r tle lum b e r and creak through tbe bogs, spitting red fleme from th e i r m u d encrusted guns and creating panic w h e rever they operate. One lone tan k today reported th e capture of 60 Germ ans n e a r St. Julien. W h ile wallowing along tow ard tn© enem y line the m o n s ter encountered one of its kind stopped by a direct hit from a German -anti-tank gun. The uninjured tan k charged the gun and literally m ashed It out of com - nlission. E ight Germ ans were cap tured here and turn e d back to the advancing British infantry. The same tank, creeping along, aided in the cap tu re of Pom m e rn redoubt and i P o m m e m castle. It crossed the deep cut, m a rking the redoubt and sent word back th a t it ‘was clear of th e enem y . Meanwhile, another t a n k crashed its way through th e castle defense, while the G e r m ans fled precipitatteiy. Advancing infantry found th e defenders m assed in th e redoubt position which the first tan k had cleared. _ More tanks were summoned. Four slid roaring over the redoubt and took it instanter, the G erm ans su r rendering. Then it was discovered the defenders had first fled from the re doubt to th e castle, and then back from the castle to th e redoubt. T h e re was no other place to flee to arwfl’ the redoubt was for th e second tim e under attack, since th e first tan k which had reported th e redoubt d e a r had covered th e rear. AH prisoners confessed th e ir panic at th e steel m o n sters. C rossing to the Ypres c&TtsU by these tan k s —^nnder constant shell fire and gas clouds—^was one of the great feats of the war. But the se cret of how it was done will not be told until th e w a r is over. The m o n s tiw is strength of the giant tu rtles creates co n s tan t am a ze m ent. One tan k encountered a huge fully laden m o tor Lorry, stuck in a ditch. It stopped and obligingly hitched the fro n t axles on a big chain. Then it lum b ered ahead. T h e re was a crash and wells of dls- from th e Lorry -driver. The tank pulled out th e fro n t wheels, the m o tor and p a r t of the chaste. ^ One other tank, running without lights, crashed into a railw a y engine knocking it off th e track. The tank’k crew, n o t a ' b it dism a y ed, prom p tly w e n t over and pndiedi th e engine ■back on th© rails again, sending It r puffing contentedly.
