Seek Support For Footbridge Near Kennedy A possible foolbrldge across the canal near the coming Kennedy Senior High School in South Bellmore was among the topics of discussion at lasr week's meeting of the Board of Educa- tion. If the bridge is not con- strucled, many sludents who are within sight of the Htgh School will nc,·crthcless hove a long way to trave l to get to the school. Count~ Executive BugeneNick- erson, upon heanng that the foot- bridge would be used by only about 50 children, was quoted at th(' Board meeting as havmg satd that this \'ould not warrant the construction of an expenshe bridge. However, it is the Board's op1n1on that many more than 50 students will make use of the brtdge, and transponatlon costs will be saved both to the District and lO the parents. Funhermorc, 1t was not quite clear whether a bridge would be the responsibil- ity of lhe Town of Hempstead or the County. A Board comminee will look into the question and a preliminary census will be taken to determine how man}' students can be expected to use the bridge. The new High School is not scheduled to open until September 1966, but any bridge plans will also take much time, so the Board feels that it none too early to set the wheels in motion.
