Board Discusses ttttttttttttttttttttttttd A Nonh Bellmore resident and local educator is among 12 vo- cational industrial education ad- mlnlstrators who are enrolled in a 12-month program of profes - sional study and internship, be- lieved to be the first of ils kind in the United States, at State U ni- versity College at Oswego, He is G. Wayne Dameron , di- rector of Vocational and Prac- tical Ans Education, for Centra l High School District Three, Mr. Dameron has begun a full semester's work on campus, dur- ing which he will study organiza- tion, administration and courses and experiences related to voca- tional and industrial-technical education, This wUI be followed by an eight-month field study program, which will take him to areas in which some of the mo:.r outstanding vocational technical education programs are in prog- ress, A directed field study will invol v e a six-month on-the-job experience in his own super- visory-administrative po s t, Dur- ing th1 s period, weekly visits and ind1 vi dual conference s will be condu cte d by :.tate s upervis- ors, tea ch er trainer s , and e x - penenced v ocauooal admini s tra- tors. The College at Oswego's newly formed \'o c atlonallndustrial Ed- ucation Di v ision and the New York Stat e Depanmem of Edu- cation organiLed the ::.pecial course of study, which carries 26 hour s o f graduate credit, Pan of the on-campus work includes a sequ~:nce of . three four-week Cond uct Study Of C.H.S. Staff At tho request or the Board of Education a stalfing study is currently being conducted in Central High School District Three. At last week's Board meeting President Miss K:J.ther- ine Reif explained that the Board had wanted the study in view of the extraordinary growth ot the District in recent years. The Board contacted two universi - ties, and chose New York Uni- versitY' School or Education to conduct the study. A team of experts is spending much time in the District now with a view to completing the study by February 1, in order that any recommendations may be considered before prepara- t ton or next year's budget. The study is being headed by Dr. Daniel E . GrWiths, Di- rector. Members o! the field team are Dr Frank Lutz, Dr. Joseph AzzareW, David SheP- oiser, and Arthur Richards. Dr . Azzarelll briefly outlined the plans !or the study at the Board meeting. He said that the re- port would make recommend- ations !or any changes that might seem des irable. The District is participating in another study, upon invita- tion from Cornell University, This study concerns educational leader ship, and all Board mem - bers are currently being 1nter- v1e.,.,-ed abOut their Ideas regard- ing this matter. G. Wayne Dameron courses. Mr. Dameron, who was ap- pointed Director of Vocational Education in September, holds the BS degree from North Caro- lina State College and the MS degree from Hof s tra Unhersity. He has 15 year:. experience in bu s ines s and en g ineering and six years' e x perience a s a teacher of related s ubjects. He i s a mem- ber of Tau Beta Pi honor society. ~hile Mr. Dameron is on the study program, Bunon Cadro, who has been in the District for some 20 years, will serve as acting director for vocational and practical art s education. Corporal Punishment The Central Hlgh School Dis- trict Three Board or Education briefly discussed the old ques- t!on o! corporal punishment at it s meetin g last week. In reply to a question from a visitor, Norman Roth , District Principal Dr. Julius Braun exp lained that a teacher can refer a child to the Assistant Principal !or dis- ciplinary action, and that the Assistant Principal h.as author- ity to ad 1nini ster corporal pun- Ishment in place of a parent . He said this was not at variance with State Department of Edu- cation rules. Board President Miss Kath- erine ReU said that she was \really ver} · shocked\ to hear that this take .- place In an are:~ such as District Three.
