Permit No . 412 COMPLIMENTARY COPY A New Weekly Newspaper About The Bellmores 100 Vamps Battle Fire In Store On Sunrise Highway Over 100 members of the Bell- more Fire Department waged a four-hour ba[tle Sunday morning against a fire which completely destroyed the Meadowbrook Furniture building on Sunrise Highway betw~ Bed!ord and Bellmore Avenues. Five or six of the volunteers were overcome by smoke and one fireman, Tony Allen was removed to Meadowbrook Hos- pital where he was treated tor smoke inhalation. Chlet Ernest J. Schneider, Jr. of the Bellmore Fire Department reported that all seven pieces or Department equipment and the three fir companies responded t the r 11 wtJi,.h t-'>mo ho t 1 :liO A, M. Sunday. 1 he men worked until 2:30 P.M. to con- trol the blaze. The Wantagh Fire Department was called 1n for assistance, and the North Bellmore Fire Depart- ment stood by at the Bellmore headquarters to cover tor the men in case of another call . The building is owned by Jer- ome Bossen of 2140 Bellmore Avenue, owner of Meadowbrook Lumber Company. Mr. Bossert told \Bellmore Life\ that the buUding was a complete loss, and the damage considerable. The furniture company is O\llilCd by WUUam Ronnerman and Sons of Sayvllle. The three Bellmore Fire Com- panies, all of which sent men to fight the blaze are Advance !look, Ladder and Engine, Wal- ter Valentine, Captain ; Hose Company No. 1, Joseph Rutko- ski, Captain and Engine Company No. 2, Austin Wallace, Captain . Deputy Chiefs of the Depart- ment are Albert Green and Don- ald Miellte. The t\',O local squads will renew their rivalry this Saturday afternoon at l:OO P.M. at the Mepham High School field. A crowd of well over 3000 local residents is expected on hand to witness the annual clash of these two arch-rivals . Thus tar in the rivalry's three year history, the B uc s oC Mepham High have been able to salvage two out ot the three victories. No one can possibly forget last year's thrlllin g Colt victory where after sco reless fir s t hal! they erupted for thirteen points and went on to trounce the Pi- rates 13·7. Mepham will be out there Sa t- urday trying to avenge last year's defeat while the Cal houn C olts wtll be trying to even up the series . No matter what happens, you can be assured ot an after- noon of thrills and excitement, When these two Central High School District Three Schools meet, anything is bound to happen! Bucs Are 1-6 The Bucs go into Saturday's ball game with a 1-6 record. However, this is no indication of their great potential and depth.
