As the scorching progresses, the leaves may curl inward giving them- a cup-like appearance. They will look. ‘as if they had been searched by -Don't be surprised it many of the leaves dro Premaiurely. Leaf scorch will affect most of the hardwood trees this year. The primary reason is because of the wet humid weather at the last Spring and \early Summer. The tissues at the leaves simply have nothad. a chance to harclen, I-Iohsunny clays and drying winds cause the bronzing anti scorching. You will notice the searching is more pronounced on the sunniest side of a tree or in the direction of the prevaiging winds. Should there be a penod of dry =weather or drought, the bronzing will come suddenly and with intensity. The lush foliage growth of many trees this Spring because of the rainy season will be too great in many inqtances to be supplied by the normal moisture in the ground during Augus dog days. Trees exposed to sun and wind should be well watered this Sum- mer, as soon as the first symptmn of heat scorch appears. Trees with a restricted root growth appear to be more gusceptible to this type of physxoiogxcal injury. For that rea- son generous applications of .a high» ly organic tree food are suggested .10 encourage root development. 2 .3? __ X . v ’ .. \\ §\ ’ \ .. 1«.,.;,..
