Beach‘ Haven and North Haven Holes BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL DIRIECTORY Don't forget to write 1948!. for by this time 1. 1.. 48 you are over the ‘line of the NEW YEAR and may it be 2: HAPPY ONE for ALL. *4? hasn't been so bad to many of us and of course. to some it will have its sorrows as in‘ the course of events--the pendulum swings in its measured course. Looking over the old globe and its people, we can see it sorely beset yet -with chaos and starvation, the aftermath of our last great war and no sign yet. of the great peace as promised. Yet the leaders oi the movement still battle‘ and try to bring some- thing out of it, giving their ‘best fo find the way to its consummation. Our. own small troubles are as noth- ing a.mi.. we resolutely go on with new hope to overcome them and go forward. I One of our own small troubles whlchllke the poor is always with us and for which we do exactly nothing—-the WEATI£ER—--brought _us here in the East to almost a.stop, -the unusual and heavy fall” of snow. Yes! we had a white Christmas, and near N. Y. City it brought them up, with A bang and aloud one with its heavy thunder while it snoweé and snowed until as the papers say it left a worse tangle for tra than the famous bilzzard of ’88. Here-t abouts we got no newspapers until Sunday though the radio had given us glimpses of the awful affair. Locally we got only a light snow- fall, but it was wet and thick while it fell and made car driving almost an impossibility. I dis} see one in- trepid driver from the city heading b;;u:k_ at 21 crawl by holding one door open to ‘keep on the road, and luck- ily he had his chains on. Nobody as far as I know came out to visit at Pine Neck or the neigh« borhood, but a few of the daring ones had left us to visit friends in the city. What happened we can only guess-—-until they return. The papers report about 50 lives lost due to the storm, as reported so far. In N. .1’. there was a record of 8,Q00,0'0O' telephone calls in the 24 hours after the storm. @ % Attorneys at Law Land.
