Box 547 Honeoye Falls. NY 14472 And we can ignore the overcrowd- ing in our own schools and blindly assume teachers and students can cheerfully manage in crowded rooms and ongoing construction messes during school hours and with inadequate teaching materi- als. OR, we can seize this opportunity to invest our own money to provide a proper edu- cational environment for the children of our community. Our children deserve adequate class- room space and the best educa- L----- _____ ---II tion that we can provide. Wecan MCCCA Supports Proposition 2 and Proposed HFL Budget Dear SENTINEL: The 28 members of the Mother's Cooperative Child Care Association unanimously suppon Proposition 2 and the proposed budget of the Honeoye Falls-Lima School. We are ~teful to the members of the Capital Projects Advisory Committee for recog- nizing the rapidly developing over- crowding problem and for draft- ing an excellent proposal which will provide a new school, food service center, bus garage and many needed renovations. The financial success of their pro- posal depends on receiving New York State merger aid of70% of the total bond. The availability of the merger aid expires this year. We must vote yes for this now! Or else our children will have to go split-session and even- tually we would be forced to ex- pand, but would have to pay sev- eral times as much! People can complain about cuts in the state and federal budget We can brood about de- clining academic performance of American students. We can wary about drug ahllSC by children. readily afford it Especially if we act now! We hope that everyone in the commlmity willleam about ProJX)Sition 2 and the budget And that they will vote for the chil- dren on Wednesday, June 7. With hope for the children of the future, M.C.C.C.A. Keep tbe Donors Alive Dear Editor: It is that time of year when elected school board members present the local school budget to the voters for their consideration. Isn't it about time we give serious thought to limit- ing the amount of taxes extracted from the private sector to pay for education? The medical profession prescribes that blood donors be limited 10 giving one pint of blood within a cenain time limit They would like to keep the donor ali ve so that he is able to return and give blood again. Our local school administration and school board seems to be oblivious to the pos- sibility of killing off the taxpayer donors. The priority shifts in education from instructing stu- dents at a cost taxpayers can af- ford to allowing school adminis- trators to spend whatever they choose to spend gives those ad- ministrators a blank check and the taxpayers the bill. If we comparison shop for education we could drive ooe hour and locate public education al half the cost. The lUXUry of the school campus concept makes educa- tion for young children imper- sonal. Few of those kids develop any social growth or make friends in a school on wheels, spread out lil£ a factory. These kids do not relate to the social aspect of education which is to work with others they know. Sports gives only a few children the opportu- nity to play. Even the audience participation isn't geared for team effort. I wouldn't insult your in telligence by asking you to vote on way or the other on the school budget I'm asking you to vote as if you were spending your in- come, not mine. Credit card in- come of newcomers to the com- munity are placing a real hard- ship on those on fixed income. As medical coverage shrinks and utility costs sky rocket, those on ftxed income are stunned by la, increases. Less than 10% of the eligible voters tum out for school votes. Be infonned of the facl~ and vote. Infonnation on teacher tenure, salaries, contracts amI beneftts are available from the business office of the school lis led by name. Non-teaching sLarf, blL~ drivers are a1llisted as to salaric-'i paid. If the budget is defeated. please keep in mind our school's leach children the process of government - one election, onl~ person, one vote. We do nOI go on austerity. We go back 10 a carry-over budget from last year. Let's begin to mature politically and stop acting like children. Teachers are well paid and enjoy the best union beneftts in the nation. They work 25% less than the private sector. This school, like most public schools, is top heavy with unnecessary school administration. There is more to life then the education childr~.I) .. Remem- ber tax payers, part of what we earn still belongs to us.
