At a closed, emergency meet- ing Wednesday night, the 10- man board voted unanimously to reverse its Monday night rul- ing that the display of Biblical scenes violated the principle of church-state separation. The paintings of Jesus Christ, Mary and other Biblical figures on plastic resembling stained glass were removed by the principal or Memorial Junior— Senior High School, Vuo A. Fare.se . on Tuesday The board reconsidered after numerous pro-tests by students. parents and residents opposed to the removal Board President Louts Galio sa.fi in a statement after the meeting that the board had sent telegrams to State Atty. Gen. Arthur J. Sills and State Edu- cation Commissioner Carl L Marburger requesting guidance Marburger did not reply. but Sills answered that he could not interfere in what the cision. he said, \After an initial' hasty decision, the board acted wisely in the true spirit of Christmas.\' ! Galio also announced the de- cision to a group of 11)0 parents gathered at the high school and at a Christmas — Hannukka-h choral program attended by : some 300 parents and students there later. The audience greeted the an- nouncement with applause, and the 80-member student choir continued its program of Christ- mas and Hannukkah songs.
