Fined $50 On Speeding Charge Here George Wilbur who was arrest- ed on July 10 on a charge of driv- ing a car while intoxicated, and whose case was adjourned from July 12. pleaded guilty before Judge John H. Wells in city court yester- day morning and was fined $50 or 50 days in the Canton jail. Wil- bur paid the fine. Xelson Lesperance was given a suspended sentence of 30 days in the Canton jail when arraigned yesterday morning before Judge Wells on a charge of public in- toxication. Joseph Sorel, arraigned on the same charge received a similiar sentence. Repairs Are Rejected All bids for miscellaneous re- pairs to the Ogdensburg post of- fice which were opened at the U. S. engineer's in Boston on May 23. have been rejected, according to advises received by Postmaster Arthur J. Belgard yesterday from the procurement division of the treasury department at Washing- ton. The advises said that revised specifications for further needed repairs than were called for in the original bids would be re-adver- tised at a later date. Lawrance i Joins Tour To Alaska J Double Feature At The Strand Theatre Today Frank Kiah Passed Away At Hospital Frank Kiah. 91. died at the Hep- burn hospital Sunday night at 10:30 o'clock. He was horn in Lis- bon on Feb. 29. 1846 and had re- sided since the death of his wife 21 years ago with his daughter. Mrs. Clarence A. Penfield at 1613 Ford street. Mr. Kiah came to Ogdensburg when very young and had resided here since. Besides his daughter he is survived by two sons. A. J. Kiah and Charles E. Kiah of Ogdensburg. The body was removed to the Ramsdell & Ewart Funeral home and was token to the home of his daughter in Ford street where funeral ser- vices will be held today at 2:30. Rev. Charles E. He also secures a pass for his' friend. Roland, only to realize that the two are old sweethearts. Un- able to leave the city himself, he permits the two to depart for Valencia, hoping that the girl will choose between himself and Roland later. The tour will consume three weeks. Mr. Lawrance, who has recover- ed from a recent illness, has long desired to make the trip into Alaska and is happy in the anti- cipation of fulfilling his life long ambition. The party will go to Chicago over the New York Cen- tral lines, and hence the Seattle. Wash., over the Great Northern. At Seattle they will board a steamer which will touch at several Alaskan points, among them being Ketchikan. Wrangel. Petersburg, Juneau. Shagway. and Sitk. Many side trips will be made ashore dur- ing the voyage in Alaska waters. The party will inspect mines in the heart of the rich gold fields, and will study Alaskan horticult- ure. \I will realize a life ambition by making the trip into Alaska/' said Mr. Lawrance yesterday. \All my life I have wanted to go into the far north and learn something of the life and habits of the people in the great American fx>ssession.
