Their publication here eanstitntes part of the oSdal program of the Committee on Mental-Hygiene- of--the-National Congress of Parents and Teach ers. Dr. George K. Pratt, is Chairman of the Committee. Toilet Habits A child of two years should hay learned regular toilet habits. If he wets his bed or clothing of ten, it is for. one of two reasons: sickness or habit. Have him ex amined, to make sure that he is \ Al. Then begin habit training. Every child has to be taught toilet habits. He cannot learn them withont help. Things to Do— Make up your mind that the habit of wetting can be over come. Gain the child's interest in stopping it. Tell him he is going to over come it. Make him understand that it is his business to cure himself, but that you will help him. Follow these directions regu larly and faithfully: Supper at a regular time. Nothing to eat or drink after supper. Toilet at bedtime. Awake him fully later in the evening, always at the same hour, and have him go to the toilet. Further directions to be given by this doctor. Glvu mure time to trailing—and- less to making excuses. Make much of every gain, dowever small it may be. Look forward to success. Things to Avoid— Don't take the habit as -some- thing that cannot be corrected. Don't make him feel he cannot help it. Don't discourage him in any way. Don't make the excuse of sick ness when he is really well. Don't make the child feel ash amed. Don't talk about the habit to everyone. Remember— Children like praise.
