DEAR MISTER EDITOR' I see by the papers where Senator Symington has popped a question to the Defense Depart m ent th a t cails fer a answer. 1 ain 't expecting him to git no answ e r and I reckon he didn’t figg^r on getting one when he ask it. But it’s m ighty com fort ing fer the taxpayers back home to know a V S. Senator can still inquire about r.uch m a tters w ith o u t somebody throwing him out oC the meeting. I t has been brung out that the U n ited S tates has now got stock piled w h a t is equal to 5 tons of TN T fer ever hum an being on earth. This comes to around 15 billion tons. Senator Symington say s we got enough nuclear bom b s stockpiled to wipe out 2,000 cities of 100.000 population and wipe out not onct out 125 tim es. He says we’ve got the bombs in storage to destroy ever city of any size on earth 125 tim es. Now w h a t Senator Symington w a n ts to know is why we keep spending $2 billion a year to stockpile more and more bombs. It has been hinted by some folks in Washington, brave enough to hint about such m a tters, that the big reason is the uranium mines h a s got one of the most power ful Iobbv organizations ever to operate in the Congress. A s a general rule. M ister Edi tor. I don’t go around with m u r d e r in my heart. But I might be willing to help pay fer killing everbody, on earth o n c t but I'm agin spending $2 billion a year to kill everbody 125 times. F e r all practical purposes, when a feller is dead o n c t he is dead. I t looks like our standard stockpiling per- cedurcs calls fer multiplying our NEVER ENDING STUDY To M-rvt* tin* public's health n**eds properly, the phannariM must never Mop learning.
