pxxi mil QmtiU. FARMINQ DOES PAY. I know a ftrmor wbo A short tirao »go *M not worth $600, who now owns i farm worth $1,500, and has Government bonds to tho amount of soveral hundrod dollars. I know throo brothers, who hired forma contiguous to tho writer's, who, within A few years, havo mado from $2,000 to $4,- 000 each. I know a young man who, soma two yonrs ago, hired a farm and f?avo bin note for $500, for tho stock and farming tools, who, tho flrst year, cleared onough to pay tho nolo, and had somo hundred dollars loft. I know anothor wh o ha s liv ed on hired farms, an d brought u p a largo family of children, and educated tbcm well, wh o last year bought bim a farm, with tho Improvements sinco mado, which cost $2,- 600, »nd has money loft. I know another, who, when a boy, was poor, worked out at farming by tho month, saved a littlo mon cy, purchased a farm on credit, and by his own industry 53 now worth $30,000. I know anothor who somo years ngo, bought A farm, paid for it by farming, built „ houio that cost $2,500 or more, and is now out of debt and. worth not less that $7,000. Ho has a son of moro than common intelli gence who ba3 dono as his fathor did, pur chased a farm, and is making money fast, and what is better, married a handsome, smart and intelligent Massachusetts \ ichoolmarm,\ for a wifo, who will cer tainly insuro his fortune. All >f the abovo farmers livo about ono and a half miles from tho writer, who also finds thnt form ing does pay.— Cor. Boston Cultivator. M ANVBINO T REES.—Now is a good limo to pu t somo manuro round your fruit trees. The fall and early spring rains will carry the tolublo elements into tbo soil and causo thorn to start with fresh vigor in early spring and summer. Apples will send out their roots a great distanco for food. \Wo recently cut off roots A distanco of forty feet from an applo tree. Thus h single troo may extend its roots across tho diame ter of a circlo two hundred and Ofty foot in circumforoncc. \Wo aro inclined to tho be lief that manuro should not bo placed close to tho trunks of tho trees, bu t at n distance of A fow feet from them.— Maine Farmer. B ROKEN C HINA or. G LASS WAnn is neatly and securely mended by cementing tho brokon edges with cherry treo gum while soft. Press tho odgos (irmly togeth er till dry, and tho break is scarcoly pcr- ceivahlo, and stands water well. How TO i C LEAN R IUBONS.—In these hard times all economical hints are necopt- Ablo. Tho following recipo has stood tho test of experiment: \Wet tho ribbon in al cohol and fasten ono ond of i t to something firm: hold the other in your hand, keep ing tho ribbon out straight and smooth; rub it with a piece of Castilo soap until it looks decidedly Eoapy, then ru b hard with A spongo, or, if very much soiled, with tho back of a knifo, keeping tho ribbon drip ping wet with alcohol. When you havo exhausted your palienco and think it must bo clean, rlnso thoroughly in alcohol, fold between cloths, and iron with a hot iron. Don't wring tbo ribbon ; if you do you will got creases in it that you cannot smooth out. A PPLE B ISCUIT.—Boil applet in water until soft, then take them out and ru b them tl IO igh a wire sieve, flavor with a drop or two of cjsenco or oil of lemon, and ifyoulik o Uio taste, a drop ofthootl of cloves. Add lump sugar equal in weight to tho pulp, and grind with it ; roll tho su gared pulp into flat cakes about a quarter of an inch thick, and cut them into shapes. Finally, dry them in a very slow oven, tbo heat not being strong enough to bako thorn or melt tho sugar ; they may bo dried also by the summer's sun. They often ro- quiro to bo partially dried beforo they can bo rolled out. They may, instead of roll ing, bo dropped on paper, or pu t in a ring of paper upon a slightly greased iron place. 8.1. »tt\$t *tiof t 0ATAERH ! WUT SUFFER WITH THIS Dangerous and Loathsome Disease!
