A Ptm—m m Cn ^he entertainment of the Advance latemry Assoczation,-which took place on ^Vedncsday ui Griffith's Hall, was very woll attended. Th e singing of Mra. At the close of the concert^retreahments were served. A Quiet Kleetion. With the exception of a slight dis turbanee in Jersey street, in which a few blows were exchanged between a Belmont and an anti-Belmont faction, Election Da y passed off in a ver>' quiet and orderly manner, only eleven arrests having been made bj-the police, nearly all of which were of a trifling character. Up to the present time we have re- fralued from passing an opinion uiion the case of the ticket agent who was recently dismissed by the Ilapid Transit Bailroad Company for calling to a possenger who had forgotten to drop bis ticket —\Joiin Henry, drop your ticket In the iK>x.\ The passenger in this case hapi)ened to be a knighte<l gentleman from Canada, and perimi>s thought that he was entitled to more respect and deference than ordinary men. Th e agent had a right to demand a ticket from him as well as anybod}' else, and, wlien he pjisse<I the box witliout dropping his ticket, the agent simply asked him to comply with the reflations of the company, and for the faithful discbarge of iiis duty was summarily dischiirjied. Now, the question arisci?, did the agent ooiii- mit uny act of injustice or impropriety In demanding the tii-Uet, even though the person was a knight? We think not. If he had used insulting language, then the company would have been justified in removing him, but ho did not. Perhaps not one man in ten thousand would have taken orTcnec at the language used. Tliere was nothing tn the renmrk, \John Henry, dro|i your ticket in the box,\ that would bave given offence to any ordinary passenger, and if the person had for- gotten to do so, It was the duty of the tieket -taker to demand it, whether i l >Bsscnger was a hod-carrier or a titled gentleman. The agent was placed there | for that purpose, and for the faithful discharge of his duty, was dismissed. It la generally conceded that the oflTence (?) was not at all commensurate with the punishment intlieted. The •gent in question is a j-oung man of exemplary habits and sterling charac- ftcter, and wo do not h^^'.i to sjiy that the railroad cojj^gigSK^y dis. mjssaUJif»Ine services of a very \ fitomislng and reliable assistant. The attendance on Tuesday evening was not large, ow- ing to the election; but the hall was filled to overfiowing on Wednesday night. The proL'rammo was varied and well rccdereil throughout.
