Page 2-January 29;i987-Foft > Covm^btlSun.F UP ON MAIMST By Pat THE SRCS CLASS OF 1977 will hold a reunion meeting at Vinney's in Fort Covington on Monday, Feb. 9th at 7:00 p.m. FOUND. An Orangish colored cat was found two weeks ago near Salmon River School. The finder, who lives in Massena, said the cat appears to be a well cared for pet. Call 315-769- 3876. CORRECTION: In last week's old photo of the Fort Covington Travelers, the boy in the front row was not Matt Mainville but Timmy Mainville. GET WELL WISHES are extended to Mike Hoit of Dwyers Home Improvement. WELL,V7ESEETHATFORTCOVINGTON is ranked number 1 on the N.Y. W 7 astewater Facilities Project priority list. The Clean Water Bill has again passed the House and Senate with a overwhelming majority, but recall that it did so last year and was pocket vetoed by President Reagan. FUNNY, how we keep getting official government notices and Fort Covington is listed as being in St. Lawrence County. WE ALSO see that Malone and Massena are being seriously considered for prison sites. WE HEAR THAT the Boys Swimming team is doing super this year and we will have to get a run-down on their season. I CERTAINLY ENJOYED my interview with the Hills and Willbanks who moved into the house formerly occupied by the Sipples. I hesitiate to commit myself in print on the basis of first impressions but I have to say, they are lovely, lovely people. I WAS VERY INTERESTED in Cheryl Willbank's recounting of the school system in which she was very active in Scotsboro, Ala. which had no school taxes. Most funding was raised by the PTA. However, it was a rather small school systems. HOW ENTERPRISING! In December, Kevin Hall, Lee Engign and Paul Tuper tra- veled to Kansas City, Mo., primarily on buses, to attend the National FFA Convention. They thank the business for their contributions and the rest of the expenses they financed them- selves. Oh, to be young and adventurous! BE SURE TO CHECK the date of your auto registration expiration. Some changes have been made. (See article.) 3Ft. WELL,-NEEDLESS TO SAY, the local area got its share of the storm that hit the Nor- theast last week. Almost everything was shut down or cancelled on Friday. After the snow fall, we got the falling temperatures. However, so far, we have not had the nightmare of glaring ice. - WHY IS IT THAT no one wants to ride in the snow mobile when \Evil Knevil\ Lauzon is driving? Letters Gutted*' Dear Jennie and Patricia, We are writing a few lines to let you know we are both well and hope you are the same. Freda and I went to Syr- acuse, N.Y. to spend Christ- mas with our family. We saw Mr. and Mrs. Barry Johnson and their daughter, Stephanie, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike John- son and their son, Sean. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Johnson and their daughter, Missy, came from Mississauga, Ontario, so this was the first time we have all gotten together in eight years. We've been in Florida for eight years and we are having nice weather. We all had a good time with our family at Christmas time. (Trre pictures) were taken at our son's place (Mr. and Mrs. Barry Johnson.) Have a good 1987 and we thank you very much. We went to see Mr. and Mrs. Nap Beaudin and next month we are going to see Mrs. Betty Patterson and daughter, Linda. Betty, Linda and Judy called us one night last week. They are all well. Say hello to our friends, too. Happy Birthday, Wayne Ghostlaw and John Mulvana. From your friends, Harold and Freda Johnson Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and three grand- children, Stephanie, Missy and Jean Johnson. Westville V.F.D. Th man hired to do the transfer work is a Fort Co- vington man who rents his garage space from a Westville man. A few small items such as the newly repaired heater and radio are still on the 1975 truck; but even the taillights along with all substantially costly parts, such as the 4- speed transmission, clutch, pressure plate, fly wheel, shifting apparatus, etc., were missing when the woman managed to get her truck returned with the assistance of a local justice of the peace. The owner of the garage location got into the act and refused to deliver the 1975 truck although he and the Fort Covington mechanic had been paid $ 50.00 for towing and a finder's iee for the 1977 truck. The ^ft Covington woman knows of the good work and indisputable honesty of such local garages as Bruce Gardner's, Mike Patenaude's, etc. as she has lived here for nearly ten years. She employed the man she did because he had moved onto her street and appeared to be in need of money. It would appear that he and his cohorts (a third man also worked at stripping the 1975 truck al- though only one man was hired and supposed to do the work) felt the money received for the work, tips and markup for parts was to be multiplied by gutting the woman's older truck and selling all duplicate items. The woman has a \gut\ feeling that the man who is in possession of at least some of the missing parts may be unaware that the parts belong on the gutted 1975 Chevrolet truck. It and she want them back. (EDS. NOTE: All names have been withheld by request PWM) Middle School Spelling Bee Winners Twenty-six Middle School students from Salmon River Central School participated in the fourth annual spelling bee, January 26 in the SRCS Aud- itorium.
