I was fasci- nated by her description of her pear pie and asked for the recipe. t4 What recipe?\ she shrugged, \you just throw in a little bit of this and that...and lemon is the key.\ I ALMOST DID NOT RECOGNIZE WEBBIE CHARETTE at St. Mary's Harvest Bazaar and Dinner without his red hat. He says that his daughter, Claudia keeps throwing the dear old hat away but so far, he has managed to reclaim it every time. WHILE I AM NORMALLY SKEPTI- CAL of anonymous letters and phone calls, I also realize that in a small town one often has to be \anonymous.\ While the letter will not be printed, I frankly appreciate the news tip IF IT INVOLVES AN ISSUE. Pure gossip and attacks on people are thrown in the trash. Per- sonal vendettas have no place in a local paper, although I sometimes get involved in them and don't know it. News tips are encouraged. Many times they concern matters worth investigating. Remember, this is your local paper. I can't print what I don't know. GET WELL WISHES ARE extended to Mrs. Beulah Bushey. GLENDA BENEDICT has informed us that volunteers are needed to give 2 hr. a week to fight illiteracy. A workshop will be held at the Akwesasne Library on Nov. 7th at 9:30 a. m. Call 358-9063. Don't forget SRCS Middle School musical \Heidi\ on Thursday, Nov 6th at 7:30. VALERIE LEBLANC of Fort Covington, who was employed at Bea-Jay Manufacturing in Malone tells us that this week's pay checks were not distributed and that the whole situa- tion remains up in the air. Fleig, Father is going to have memorial cards printed and he liked that particular photograph. Fort Fire and Rescue By Greg Stone For the month of October, the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Dept. responded to 7 calls. There were 2 fire calls for the month with a total of 42 for the year. A total of 32 man hours was spent at fires with an average of 10 men respond- ing to each call. There was one brush fire and structural fire with aid from Westville and Malone. There were 5 rescue calls for the month with a total of 76 for the year to date. A total of 45 and a half man hours was spent at these calls with an average of 11.2 men responding to each call. There were 3 transports (2 of which mutual aid from Westville was called in) and 2 vehicle accidents with fire equipment also used and mut- ual aid from Bombay. Not Supposed to Be Upset\ Again, we would like to thank Westville and Bombay Fire Departments for their help with these calls while our rescue truck was being repaired. At this time, the members of the Department would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. HVFD The Hogansburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to 13 calls during the month of October. These included: 1 car accident, 1 car fire, 2 chimney fires, 1 electrical short, 1 rdad wash-down, 1 oil furnace malfunction, 1 gasoline leak, 1 pot burner malfunction, 3 false alarms, and 1 mutual aid to Bombay. The Department has re- sponded to a total of 139 calls for the reporting year thus far. We have been residents of the town of Bombay for 13 years. Our farm, located on the Dog Hollow Rd. has grown to our capacity over the years. The area knew what kind of shape the buildings were in when we purchased it in 1972. We worked from Oct. to May for the bare necessities to make it liveable and far- mable and our farm now speaks for itself. Our gross income in these 13 years has exceeded one and a half million dollars. That one and a half million farm dollars multiplies itself throughout the Franklin County community 5-7 times. What percentage of that amount comes back to Bombay as revenue sharing? But we are to sit back and accept the fact that we are not worth the price or consideration to re-plank Dog Hollow Bridge that has been welded per- manently closed by Franklin County. «, The Dog Hollow Rd. is a short cut between two main county roads. While owning no river frontage, we are forced to travel around the town of Bombay, back to the bridge, making it a seven miles round trip to reach land ouu ft. from the barn over the bridge. With the bridge closed, the road has been closed to through traffic. Our next concern will be vandalism to the alfalfa fields, corn fields and the Reserve Conservation Development (RCD) test plot. As many of our dairy farms are failing today../ 4 We will survive. Sincerely, Ernest and Carrie Jock Bombay INSURANCE SERVICE RRE-AUTO-BONDS Sickness and Accident Main St., Ft.
