THERE WILL BE A REALLY BIG sur- prise awaiting those who turn out for the Amer- ican Legion Old Timers vs. Buddy's Girls Soft- ball Team Match at the Fort Old Legion Field at 2:00 p. m. 5 Sunday, August 31st. We aren't sure in what context BIG is used in this instance. IN ORDER TO CLARIFY the article writ- ten last week about Nancy Mills Bruso, we must tell you that the present name of the travel agency is Leone's Travel World and it is located at 50 East Main Street, in the Flanagan Hotel in Malone. It is not to be confused with the agency which was erroniously named and which is located in places other than Malone. While we are not at liberty to reveal the new name, the location will remain the same. IN A NEWSLETTER FROM- WASHINGTON, Congressman Dave Martin has co-sponsored legislation which would elim- inate certain customs users fees, including the controversial $25 annual fee for U. S. and Gan- adian boats over 30 feet in length which enter the U. S. from Canada. Action on the proposed legislation is still pending. WE HEARD FROM A DINER at Chase Mills Inn that INDEED the pies are home- made, and the whipped cream is real. Sorry about that, I was fooled ... how does one say \good as store bought\? ACCORDING TO A RECENT news arti- cle, the latest \meet\ market is the \local IGA where singles nights have people cruising the aisles looking for breakfast cereal and perhaps someone to share it with.\ If supermarkets are to become the \singles bars\ of the 80's, I can't help but wonder what the people at Fish's IGA have in mind to get on this trendy bandwagon. JIM DESHAISES, pitching for Houston has now racked up a 9-3 tally for the 86 season. Expo fans have to look elsewhere in the sports news for somethingrencouraging. SRCS SENIORS who are taking college level courses this semester, please note: The NCCC bookstore will be opened on August 30 and September 6th and a number of second hand books which can be used in those courses will be available. Bookstore is in ACE office and is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. SRCS DOESN'T NEED AN UNLISTED telephone number, as can be attested by anyone who has tried to call the school. Much of the time the telephones just plain don't work and Ma Bell won't tell you that they are out of order, so you think that no body is home. IS MY FACE RED: iam truly embarrassed. In last week's review of the Chase Mills Inn, I am not sure whether or not the chicken cordon blue was a very, very cold chicken or one which was stuffed with blueberries. I really do know how to spell the famous blue ribbon entree, but a helpful gremlin decided that I had transposed my letters and along with the blue chicken, there is a red face. Letters We heard about the phenomenon which hap- pened in Dick Cook's truck during the heat wave experienced fair week. Seems Dick had a package of Jolly Time pop corn sitting on the front seat of his locked vehicle and the extreme heat caused the corn to pop, nearly filling the cab. Now, if you believe that we will tell you about.... Dear Pat and Jennie, So sorry about that V A mix- up. My intentions were good, but then, the road to some- place or other is paved with good intentions. I submitted my claim and got a letter back stamped, \Returned to Wri- ter, Address Unknown.\ Such is life! I am enclosing the senior citizen retration and their apology. Also enclosed is an article about an old newspaper which Marion and Howard might be interested in. As I recall, Char- lie Hence used to set the print for THE SUN, one letter at a time. Also, there are a couple of items from the PUBLICK ENTERPRISE which I think are humorous. I do hope that the N.Y. State Police are dif- ferent from the Md. State Police! I am still waiting for a snap- shot of you two girl in THE SUN. Just remember: \There are many people more pretty by far, for my face I don't care for I am behind it, it's the peo- ple in front that get the jar.\ Best Regards, John Lacombe Dear John, The articles you submitted from Annapolis' PUBLICK ENTERPRISE and the OASIS (senior citizen paper of Prince George, Md.) were more than humorous, they were hilarious. Our reactions were unanimous: \Could you imagine what would happen if this were printed in THE SUN or any of the local new- papers?\ We are casting no aspersions on your readers nor ours, but it is obvious that geography and demography create different attitudes. I shall definitely give the article on \THE VALLEY REGISTER: an Old Fashi- oned Type of Newspaper\ to Marion and Howard since the parallels between it and THE SUN are amazing. THE VALLEY REGIS- TER is being forced to convert from the old lynotype press to the computerized typsetting and photo-offset process. Where do you get linotype machine parts today and how many people can or^rate one? Please wish the new owner the County's Treasure, Jake Hughes, who is seen here at his favorite watering hole filling up on fresh lemonade. During fair week it was the place to find Jake. Since he discovered lemonade, it has been said that Jake will allow no other fluid to touch his palate. And if you believe this, there is this bridge located east of Massena..... good luck for us. While the old linotype, required an enor- mous amount of work the newer computerized processes are still in the early stages and the \bugs\ are still present. THE errors are maddening, as you can well see in THE SUN. The retraction in THE OASIS raises a significant question regarding the WWII GI insurance dividends hoax. What is the purpose since there is no monetary gain involved? We add that this is a very insensitive joke directed toward those very people we should be thanking. However, to reiterate your statement, \Such is life.\ I guess we all know that some people can be cruel under the guise\ of \a joke.\ We have a better idea. Instead of us running our pic- ture, why don't you stop in again and see us in person when you are in the area? In fact, we have relatives in Annapolis, so don't be sur- prised if we come knocking at your door sometime.
