UP ON MAINST By Pat and Jennie IT IS TRULY AMAZING to what lengths some people will go in order to assure that they will be able to play golf. Hate to be the first to break the news, Vaughn, but owning the course won't help the score and you can't count that as a handicap. IT WAS A \TOT'S R US\ FASHION SHOW at the Shamrock Figure Skating Club awards ceremony held last Sunday at the SRCS auditorium. It was a delight to see how fashion- ably turned out and how well behaved the recip- ients of the awards were. It really was too bad that we couldn't take individual pictures of each of these ladies and gentlemen. AS DIFFERENT AS THINGS MAY BE, THE MORE THEY ARE THE SAME: Driv- ing daily over the Foster-Brill Road reminds me of 1-81 through the state of Pennsylvania. The road crews are forever doing something to the highway, but it leaves one to wonder just what happens to the repaired portions since the roads are always in terrible shape. A PROPOSAL: That all sports banquets be scheduled and held within two week r of the completion of the season — at last the momen- tum and enthusiasm would still be there. A SPECIAL NOTE OF THANKS to Vanessa LaVare, St. Regis Tribal Council Secretary who certainly is one of the most con- genial young ladies I have ever met, Her assist- ance in obtaining snapshots of many of the secretaries featured this week in honor of National Secretary's Week was greatly appre- ciated. Without that help, the project couldn't have been completed with such ease. THE PLANNED 5(Ts STYLE DANCE WHICH IS scheduled to be held on May 30th promises to be a lot of fun. Now, if the Music Department would only provide dancing les- sons for some members of that age group WOW 7 ! CORKY CROFOOT AND JACK FURNIA reached the two gallon blood dona- tion when they gave blood on April 16th. Pat Hooker has donated one gallon. FORT COVINGTON TRASH DAY will be May 2nd. Supervisor Smith reminds that no brush nor garbage will be picked up at that time. THE SRCS HOCKEY BANQUET wilf be held on May 7th. at 6:30 p.m. A prime rib dinner will be served at S8.00 for Adults and S4.00 for children. A MOTHER'S DAY CRAFT S^ALE, spon- sored by the Bombay Firemans La&^s- Auxil- iary will be held May 10th, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Bombay Fire Station. GROSSARTH, who bought the Country Manor, called to let us know that she and her husband will be opening a B & B (Bed and Breakfast) at that site in the fall. The Gros- sarths, from Woodstock, Md., ran a contest among their friends to select a name. The prize was a free weeks stay at the B & B. The winning name? The \Victorian Spirits.\ Mrs. Grossarth is trying to compile as much history as she can about the old, beautiful building. PAT AND FRANK CAMMORATA have returned home to Ft. Myers, Fla. after spending a few days with her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Violet Fisher. Pat has just retired from Franklin General Hospital, Valley Stream, L.I., after 25 years on the staff and Frank fin- ished 20 years as a security guard at the New York City Port Authority. BLANCHE BOARD WAY, who had recent serious surgery, is now out of intenisve care and into Rm 210 at Saranac Lake Hospital and would like to hear from her friends. MEMBER , m.L.L.U.l. \U)\ SERVICE PARTS — Dear Parents: A situation occurred on Friday, April 18, 1986, in the school that I feel deserves some attention. Two students came to school and then left school and went fishing for the day. Apparently, at least four groups of adults saw these two students wandering along the roads of our community, yet no one called the school to find out why. These students did not return to school until approximately 3:15. The two sets of parents spent a number *••*••••••••• of hours very concerned as to where their children were. It would be greatly apre- ciated if in the future, wnen parents or other adults in the community see children, obviously of school age, out- side of school, that these par- ents would call the school and let us know. We will follow up on any such calls and of course will allow the caller to remain anonymous. Sincerely, EMMETT FAVREAU Middle School Principal Salmon River Board of Educa- tion and Mr. Lewis.. Why isn't the school board agenda put in the paper? The board approved it at the meet- ing two months ago. Do we need an act of Congress to get anything done? Why wasn't the Chevy, Sta- tion Wagon put in the auc- tion? Don't the taxpayers have a right to bid on it? If it is good enough for Brushton, why isn't it good enough for Sal- mon River? Why isn't the treasurer's report up to date? We are only four months behind right now. Is our business agent too busy? Harold Lauzon Philip Lauzon Hello, Hope you two had a good Easter Vacation. The weather down here was quite good, too. It has now cooled off a bit and was 42 yesterday at 6 a.m. and again today, same time, was 44. Everything growing well, including the grass in our front yard. Too much Dew this morning to mow, but after lunch and taking the letters I've written this morning to the PO, I shall get out and mow the grass. Those are some grand pic- tures you are putting in the SUN still, from the collection of Martha Gorman King. I can well recall the old Route 37 to Malone and little or no paving and especially so there in Fort Covington. You've noted that someone from NY City had purchased several homes there in the fort and would renovate them and make them available for pur- chase. Which homes are they? I noted John LaCombe's letter to you, in a recent SUN. Good to know he is OK and still active. His family lived just to the North of my old family home there — now owned by Elton Cappiello. John was just a bit older than I, with his brother Francis being my age; or, maybe it was his Sister Mary who was my age. It's been so long since I've seen any one of them, I fail to recall their ages. SPRING IS HERE. Our garden is growing well. We've got Sugar Snap peas up about 6 to 8 inches. They are the kind which can be eaten whole — pod and contents. A cross between Snow Peas and regu- lar green peas. We also have them growing too; as well as radishes, lettuce, carrots, potatoes. A bit too early to put out tomatoes and peppers and other tender plants, for we have had late frosts around this time of year. The tomato plants are growing in the \Cold Frame\. We'll plant them, and peppers and beans and other things after the 15th of April. An article in the Little Rock ARKANSAS GAZETTE about Indians in Arkansas and then, about Indian Publica- tions which are being studied and collected for the Library at the Univ. of Arkansas, Lit- tle Rock, told of their having the AKWESASNE NOTES. Here is the direct quote — \— and, the controversial Akwa- sasne Notes from Upstate New York's St. Regis Mohawk Preserve.\ You quote from and about this group from time to time, but I was not aware they were \Controversial\. Are they? Maybe I'm not reading the SUN correctly! Sincerely, Harmon L. Remmel Adult Menu Week of April 28-May 2 Monday—New England boiled dinner, beet salad, fruit.
