Page 6-April 17,1986-Fort Covington Sun-Fort Covington, N.Y. Cook's Chip Shots By Sandy Cook It's Thursday (already?) and time for a few notes from your roving sports reporter. At this particular moment, I'm roving the beaches of Florida. Fear not (or is it hope not?), I'll be back before you know it. We have a few changes on the banquet schedule. The SRCS Spirit Banquet will now be held next Tuesday, April 22, at 7 PM in the high school cafeteria. That's good, because now Michelle can make it, even if I can't. Sure hope there's a nice crowd on hand to honor the Salmon River cheer- leaders, pep band, pep club, color guard, and twirlers. Coach Bill Plante and the Shamrock hockey team will also have a banquet - but just when was not known at press time. It won't be on April 23, as originally scheduled. As soon as we know, you'll know. One gathering did not change. Salmon River's Lady Shamrocks will celebrate their sectional and league cham- pionship season on Friday, April 25, with dinner starting at 7 PM. Should be a night full of pride for all involved in the program, and, again, we hope lots of parents and fans will be there to join in the fun. As you may be aware, the SRCS Sports Calendar is printed here each week. But please be advised that the schedule is subject to last min- ute changes, especially during the spring seasons. Besides that, the calendar released by the school and the schedules I have received from Section 10 don't jive in many places. So hang in there and do the best you can to support the Sham- rock clubs, no matter where or when they play. North Franklin Sports had a very productive meeting last Monday night. It was great to see a room full of members, but I know there are more of you out there. There will be another meeting on Wednes- day, May 7, at 7 PM at St. Mary's Center in Fort Coving- ton, and we hope more members are present. At that time, new directors for T-ball and Little League must be appointed, plus an overall Spring Sports Coordinator. If you would like to help and volunteer you time for the youth of this area, please con- tact yours truly, Alice Jock, Cheryl Lewis, or Sandra Tramblay - or any NFS member. We'll be glad to have you aboard, and your help is needed in any way you can pitch in. Look for Edmonton to storm to another Stanley Cup, I guess - but it sure is fun hav- ing some different teams to look at now. How about the number Toronto and Hartford did on Chicago and Quebec, respectively? At least the Sabres not have some com- pany on the golf course. I got a copy of the 1986 Buf- falo Bills prospectus recently. It's no more than an eighth of an inch thick. And head coach Hank Bullough was quoted as saying, \We've got a lot of work to do.\ Undoubtedly, that's the understatement of the century. What an emotional finish to this year's Masters. It was heartwarming to watch Jack Nicklaus walk and stalk birdies and the eagle on 15. Many say watching golf on TV is boring. Their minds would have been changed last Sunday, I gua- rantee you. We have run out of time and space for now. This column may take a week's rest - or we may surprise you and submit something from The Sunshine State. In any event, until next time, thanks for reading and enjoy your sports. Sports Calender Today, April 17 - Varsity baseball at St. Lawrence Cen- tral, JV baseball home vs. SLC, both 4 PM.
